    Cool Fyi

I am a Straight Talk user and it might be useful for you to know that ST has some very unusual definitions of "unlimited internet". They do not allow streaming media over their network and unlimited internet mainly applies to the apps that are preinstalled on your ST phone. Remember that even the ST Android smartphones they offer only work through the Sprint network. Other phones they offer work on Sprint, T-mobile, AT&T, and Verizon networks. This may be the key to understanding the problem with making sim cards work in non-Straight Talk smartphones. I am no expert, but I can see how IT issues come into play here. ST does not have much of a tech team due to low costs and outsourcing, so they may limit the phones that will be allowed since their is no way for them to know whether or not to use every system available or just the Sprint network. Again, not an expert. But this may be helpful.

IIt would help if you said what phone you are using. Although all phones use the same setting, the steps to get to the places to enter the settings may vary by phone model.

Hi LizP. I just had the same problem when recently upgrading my phone on ST. The thing is, I had to call one evening and talk to a customer service technician. She told me it was an issue with the tower in my area not communicating properly, and to try back in 24 hours if the problem persisted. It did, so I did. The girl the next day was far more knowledgeable, and had me enter some codes into my phone to help her better see the issues with my network problems. After some short entries, she was able to make it magically work despite the tower issue (that she confirmed was happening). So I think it is just that. A tower issue that, when talking to the right technician, can be resolved. Good luck! (I don't own the Nokia, so I cannot help you specifically with the APN location.

Ok, I bit the bullet and just bought a nice iphone 3gs (android was my first choice, but this was a new refurb for cheap) and will put it on ST. Since I know squat about Apple products, I need help please. Question: is ST going to be better than H20 or Red Pocket for this iphone? And will ST, H20 and Red Pocket all give me texting? Anyone easier to setup/configure? And if I make a mistake with a wrong entry, will it kill the phone...or just start over? Thanks much and sorry if I missed this on the countless threads I have read.

Stay away from H20. Straight Talk or Red Pocket will do whatever you want. I prefer the latter as Straight Talk is way too cagy on their data policies for my liking. However, RP costs about $15 more per month (it also does not have roaming-AT&T network only). So I guess it depends on your needs and intended use. The nice thing is that RP SIM can be had for $1 on the Bay whereas ST charges $15 just for the SIM. Check out the General Prepaid forum for some Red Pocket discussions if you are interested in looking further in to that.

Regarding ST vs RP: you say that RP has no roaming..does this mean that ST sim does roam?

    Thanks agian

The AT&T unlocked SIM`s do roam. We have no reports on the NEW (never before seen) unlocked T-Mobile SIMs.

    Yes, PBR.

Now on the roaming. Straight Talk GSM does roam I am not sure on the T-Mobile BYOD SIM as we haven't gotten many reports on that yet. But the SIM swappers and the AT&T BYOD definitely have 'roaming' though it appears to vary and data while roaming is likely to be a no-go. It might work, but don't count on it. Voice and text will function normally.
