Did you check Futureshop? They can hook you up with a 3yr plan to Telus and they're likely to have Desires in stock.

I have been having the same problem as everyone here! Finally a thread to vent and get feedback.
The BB and FS in my area have them in stock but refuse to sell to me without a plan which to me is BS. The Walmart by my house has one on display but claims none of the Walmarts have them in stock yet. I didn't bother to question as they didn't seem to want to help me. The Blacks are cool to deal with very friendly and helpful but they keep telling me they are expecting a shipment in a few days, others next week. No one seems to have a definite answer.
Has anyone had any luck with Walmart? Or any other sources?
Crazy my local FS will give me one outright, I asked several times to several different people.
picking one up tonight from future shop...buying outright
Shawnessy FS S Calgary, and yes they sometimes do ask if you're a Telus customer, I've been asked even though I haven't bought one from them, I only just asked if it's possible. I did buy a Charm from them though (while in Vancouver) without being asked. *shrug*
Something tells me Telus are pulling strings to get more customers, there's a recent report that 41% of current customers are leaving for either a different carrier or cancelling contracts. LOL
But keep looking, where do you live?
I'm located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
I agree with you 100%! This is an obvious plan to draw in more Telus customers. One of the guys at FS actually tried to convince me that buying the phone full out was stupid and he could get me a Telus student plan for $40/mnth. I already pay less than that. But he kept trying. It was like trying to explain to me that black is actually white. It was painful to watch.
OK I figured you'd be somewhere in Ontario, I lived in Missisauga for a short while. Someone a few pages back said Barrie, a bit of a drive for you though but if you can get phone # of their FS it might be worth a shot.
i got screwed. the guy as future shop put one aside for me, and his donkey associate sold it(my guy said probably with a contract cuz they make more money). whatever the case, still no desire![]()
Is makes sense to only sell it to new or current Telus clients, though. Some people are willing to pay for Telus service, whereas others want to buy the phone to pay another carrier with service.

Thanks sookster. I do want this phone, but yeah Barrie is a bit of a drive and I think I can wait it out. Plus I get the impression they were selling units as straight buy outs. But now that they are selling like hot cakes Telus is cracking down and new shipments are being held back for Telus customers until they slow down in selling then they will open to the general public again.
Smart business plan but really frustrating to the consumer.
