Telus Samsung Galaxy S

Hi all,
I'm sure this has been asked before, so I apologize if there's another thread I should be looking at. I did do a search, but I didn't find any threads relating specifically to this phone on Telus.

I was in Vancouver last weekend and I spoke to a number of representatives at Telus stores. I inquired as to whether or not Telus would be getting the Galaxy S, and if so, when. None of the reps knew anything about the phone, unfortunately.

This weekend, I'm in Edmonton. I was about to bite the bullet and get a Galaxy S on Bell, when I decided to go into one more Telus store to ask again. The guy I spoke to (who was a middle-aged gentlemen wearing a nice suit and looked as though he may have been some sort of regional manager, although I didn't ask) confirmed that Telus is getting the Galaxy S, although he did not know when.

Not willing to trust one employee, I went to two other Telus stores. In all three stores I visited, the reps confirmed that Telus will be getting the Galaxy S, although none were able to provide a date more specific than "August or September." It seems to be common knowledge that Telus is getting the Galaxy Apollo, so I specifically confirmed with one rep that we were talking about the Galaxy S and not not the Apollo; he said he was "pretty sure" that they were getting both.

Does anyone else have information on when/if this phone will come to Telus? Given that three reps have confirmed it with me, I'm inclined to believe it is coming, but it's not impossible that all three were mistaken. I ask because I've been offered a very good deal on a Bell Galaxy S, but it's time-limited and I don't want to pass it up if the phone never actually shows up on Telus.

TLDR: Three Telus reps have told me that Telus WILL be getting the Samsung Galaxy S in August/September, but none were able to tell me when. Anyone have more info?

Have you seen the advertisement picture of "upcoming phones for Telus"? It has a rocket ship on there above the Samsung name, the Apollo is the only thing that has any relation to a rocket ship. Someone last week said there may be a Samsung Epic (slide out keyboard) though, I still dout it'll be the Galaxy S.

I believe I saw the advertisement you're talking about. If I recall correctly, it was for a "launch party" which was supposed to occur on August 12. I haven't heard any news about it since then, but the speculation was that it would be for the launch of the Apollo.

It's a little odd that no one (as far as I've been able to find) has ANY news from the launch party, so I almost wonder if that ad was faked. Even if it's real, though, it doesn't necessarily rule out the Galaxy S coming to Telus... especially since on rep told me they'd get both.

the samsung galaxy apollo is a lower end device it has a 3.2 inch screen and a 700mhz or so processor.

Sharky, while I appreciate that you're trying to help and don't wish to be rude, that has absolutely nothing to do with what I'm asking... unless you're saying that you have reliable information that Telus will not get the Galaxy S.

I work at TELUS, and we are getting a Galaxy S type device.
But no more details have been given to us.
And guys, TELUS was the first to say yes to the Galaxy but then decided to back away unsure of how the market woudl react to this device…look who has shot himself in the foot now.

I am very happy with my Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant from Bell. The wait time is over and im enjoying it while i dont have to "wait" forever for telus to wake up. IF Telus bring Galaxy S Epic, then i might sell my vibrant or give it to my girlfriend and buy it. However the hard keyboard isn't a must have anymore, swype is really awesome! I also found games are more playable using touch control on the big screen than keyboard, specially shooter. If you really want it bad now i would recommend you to buy the vibrant and wait for the next gen hard keyboard as techologies never end.

i had a chance to briefly play around with the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate from At&t. It will be released on Rogers soon, but my impression is that it feels a lot less plasticky less cheap than the Virbant. So if you are set on getting a Galaxy S phone, I would wait for that one to see which one you prefer. Both don't have flash for the camera tho

also got to play w/ torch, doird 2 and droid x. very impressed w/ these phones as well, except the droid x did feel a lil too big

I am stuck between the Desire or the bell Galaxy s....both have some good things about them. I am reading reviews on both and I am leaning towards the Bell galaxy s.

What's your source on that, though? Multiple Telus reps have now told me that they will be getting BOTH the Galaxy Apollo and a Galaxy S variant. I wouldn't put it past Telus reps to be completely wrong and/or misinformed, but given that I've had confirmation from several reps, I'm pretty hopeful that this is legit. I will try to investigate further when I get the chance.

I've read no where that telus is getting a variant of the Galaxy S, just that they are getting the Apollo which some thought could have been like the Epic... which its not, if you read the link I posted it states that telus is getting the apollo and that its a low end android from samsung... I know a couple managers and reps... and no word from them at all.

theres another one for ya tidalflame, theres only rumors and speculation at this point in time for telus getting the Galaxy S, the Galaxy Apollo is not a galaxy s.

It WOULD be nice if Telus got the Galaxy S variant, but it looks unlikely since the Desire recently came out and seems to be the flagship device. The Apollo's specs are worse than the Samsung Galaxy Spica (which isn't a half bad device), not worth it IMO. If the Galaxy S came to Telus I'd take that over the Desire.
