Posted on Mobile Syrup... Motorola evaluating Froyo (Android 2.2) for the the Milestone. This can't happen fast enough for me.

Even if Motorola decides to do the Froyo upgrade for us, we will be waiting for it until next year. Europe is getting it in Q4, and we are probably getting it a few months afterwards.

This means that by the time we get Froyo, other phones will have Gingerbread

This "Flash capable phone" is really starting to make me mad..... Taking way too long to get the update.

It's now confirmed today that Telus will be getting Froyo (for the past few days it was just "under evaluation"):

Awesome news... Q4 I could wait for... if it was going to be next year to never then I was planning on dipping into the unlock/root/EuroROM waters.

Can't you just flash it yourself if you have a developer's account? I thought you could download the latest build and flash your phone with it. $99 for a membership if it's possible... would save you a year. Though, you'd have to be somewhat technical to actually be able to do it most likely.

I don't have an android market developers license myself to try it out, but... that would be so sweet if you could. Go download the early build, try it out 3 Quarters of a year before anyone else whut?

I'm just glad there are software upgrades.
they could easily just make it not upgradeable and we'd have to buy a new phone.

well that's that. I could have waited until October, maybe November... but March 2011? What are the guys at Telus smoking? This on top of that 2$ paper billing charge?

I'm going to root my phone (along with hundreds of others), then I might get hacked, and then Telus will wish that they had assigned a couple extra QA guys to a firmware that's already available.

    I want F.L.A.S.H.

Totally unacceptable! I love my Milestone, but I really hate Moto right now.

HTC or Samsung is getting my money next time.

Well, that sinks it for me. Guess I'm jumping into the unlock/root/custom ROM pool. Unlock was going to happen sooner or later 'cause we are planning a trip overseas and I wanted a local sim card there. I've never planned on rooting 'cause I'm pretty patient and thought I could wait. I waited for the phone to come to Canada last Feb., I waited for 2.1 (not that long granted) last April/May. But posting Q4 and then like a bad practical joke rolling it back to Q1 2011 (which we all know means March 2011 when Gingerbread will be out south of the border) is too much to take. I'll be loading the Euro 2.2 ROM Q4 and probably not buying another Motorola phone in the future after this Android update fiasco.

I agree... I love my Milestone as well. I live in a rural area and I've got friends with other brands of phones. If you live in a city it's probably not as noticeable but in a rural area with spotty coverage my Milestone pulls in a cell signal (yes, it's a phone first then all the other great features second) better than just about any other make any of my friends' phones. One guy I know has an HTC that he's just about thrown against a tree. We were out hiking and (we both use our phones for our jobs so a working phone means money) and he almost missed a call for work. His wife was with us with her cheapo Moto clamshell phone and work called her number as a secondary number he had listed. When I showed him my signal strength standing side by side with his HTC he decided then and there to get a Moto smart phone. After that long explanation I'm very frustrated with the update situation and I'll be looking into other brands (Samsung?) and how they work in our area for my future phone upgrades.

My Moto Quench (yeah kinda low end) has better signal strength than my Blackberries and HTC Desire, the sound quality is sweet too. The Desire is a much better phone though however falls behind in call quality and signals, hmmm tough decision there.
