So is it Telus fault or Motorola's fault for the delay?

Is Android like BB where RIM releases the software and then its up to the carrier when/how to release it or is it a combination of phone manufacturer and carrier who decide when to release firmware updates?

Telus (and Bell) are reallllllly slow at OS updates, look at how long it took them to push OS 5 on BB's half a year ago, Droids are already getting 2.2 in the states and EU. Also the HTC Desire are getting Froyo all over the place as well, I have bad feelings the Telus Desire won't see 2.2 until post Christmas.

One guy I know has an HTC that he's just about thrown against a tree. We were out hiking and (we both use our phones for our jobs so a working phone means money) and he almost missed a call for work. His wife was with us with her cheapo Moto clamshell phone and work called her number as a secondary number he had listed. When I showed him my signal strength standing side by side with his HTC he decided then and there to get a Moto smart phone. After that long explanation I'm very frustrated with the update situation and I'll be looking into other brands (Samsung?) and how they work in our area for my future phone upgrades.
My Moto Quench (yeah kinda low end) has better signal strength than my Blackberries and HTC Desire, the sound quality is sweet too. The Desire is a much better phone though however falls behind in call quality and signals, hmmm tough decision there.

Why bother with mods like cyan or motofrenzy when the kernel isn't even updated. Completely unstable and a waste of time. It's not 2.2, it's 2.1 with pieces of 2.2 stuck in there.

I rely on my phone to work on a day to day basis.

I'll wait to Q1/2011 when Motorola releases the update to Telus.

Well, I'm interested to play with CyangenMod but I'm really more interested in rooting the phone (done now) and loading the Euro version in Q4 when it comes out. I'm usually not this impatient but I want wifi hot-spotting and tethering built in. When Moto first released the roll-out schedule listing Canada as Q4 and then rolled it back to Q1 2011 I was very unhappy.

I had Froyo 2.2.1 on my TELUS Milestone since November 2010, the real FROYO kernel. Very stable.

    I used this link

    http://groupoften.wordpress.com/2010...-2-1-released/

Works pretty good as it's the version all the MSOs got to customize. I've had it running for ~3 months now. My only complaint is it drains the battery (even with the bare minimum installed for service apps).

    Thanks for posting this.

When you say it drains the battery - is it substantially worse than the milestone battery was before? Mine generally needs a charge by the late evening if I use it heavily during the day. What about stability? Any improvements?

I wanted it for flash and the games, however flash is so slow to both download and execute I don't think it's worth it. Full Tilt Poker is pretty cool though.

There were also some applications that would only run on Froyo so I didn't want to miss out (coupled with Market Enabler to get rid of the Canadian restrictions).

The battery is probably the same as before, however with heavy use I'll easily blow through the battery in an afternoon. Once I uninstalled heytell, weatherbug, etc,etc the battery got a lot better (I put it on the charger before I go to bed and it typically lasts all day).

If you're a power user I would recommend the update, if you're a regular user I would wait for Telus.

There is a leaked Milestone Froyo update from Vivo Brazil (same bands as Telus/Rogers/Bell).. Apparently it is a test build. I have been using that for a few days. Speed is fine, the only issue I have with it is that the soft buttons on the bottom sometimes take 2 or 3 presses before they register.

You'll need the vulnerable recovery image, then you can flash the Froyo update with RDS Lite. Just check the stickies in that forum for how to do that.

It will overwrite with a stock recovery image, but you can overwrite it later with the vulnerable recovery again.

Alright, when the hell are we getting 2.2? Really sick and tired of random restarts 10 times a day and music randomly starting to play for no reason... And having to use Opera on https sites... and not having flash... etc.

The current CyanogenMod 6 port for the Milestone works well for me on a PC Mobile SIM so far...
    - Put the latest Androidiani OpenRecovery on SD card
    - Flash vulnerable recovery if necessary, boot into recovery, apply update.zip
    - Nandroid backup your old setup, Titanium back up too if you like
    - Then full data wipe
    - Flash any 2.2.1 SBF (the GOT one will be pre-loaded with vulnerable recovery)
    - Put the Cyanogenmod4milestone .zip inside /sdcard/openrecovery/updates
    - Put the latest gapps .zip inside /sdcard/openrecovery/updates
    - Boot into recovery, apply the Cyanogen update first, then the gapps
    - Use the menu option for radio bands, choose Canada

And boot into Cyanogen! =) Getting good 3G speeds and everything.
