Actually latest reports say the HTC Thunderbolt is fully locked down and has encrypted sigs on the bootloader and recovery...
I'm sad to say that HTC MAY be moving away from such developer friendly phones.
But ya, the official update is buggy; it's basically the same as the APAC leak from a few months ago, and that leak is riddled with DSI errors. There have been reports that the official release has these problems as well. Word is Telus will be late to the 2.2 party... hopefully because they are trying to get Moto to resolve the bugs in the other official releases (ya right!)
Last time I ever buy Moto, it's sad that I loaded CM7 (2.3) on my phone before MOTO got 2.2 out.
If MOTO gaveve us access to the kernel and bootloader now that they are done supporting the device (no 2.3 for milestone) I would buy Moto again, but there is no sign of that!
Rapamann, glad to hear your update went smoothly. Was your device rooted? Mine's rooted and I am not sure if I need to unroot first. Did you update OTA or via USB?
Were all your apps intact, or did you have to reinstall everything after the update?
Have you noticed any changes in performance? I've heard other Milestone owners complaining about slowdowns after 2.2 update.
Have you tried mobile hotspot?
I used the official link at motorola, so yes I used USB and the automatic installer from my pc, it was a little tricky getting the settings all correct on my phone to make it through the process but it went fairly smooth, mine is not rooted
some things I noticed so far:
youtube player is new, but I couldn't get a completely Full Screen like in the previous version, hope I can figure that out because it seems it is a downgrade then for me
battery seemed to really go down fast, I was watching videos and trying out Flash though, so not sure if it is worse than before
had no problems with apps at all, everything seems intact
haven't seen any slowdowns so far, haven't tried mobile hotspot
Updated over USB. Found it really slow after the update, but I have installed and uninstalled tons of apps and games. Did a factory reset and what a speed increase. It's just like brand new. Defiantly a speed increase over 2.1. Have not tried the mobile hotspot yet. Does anybody know if the data is different in someway that telus can tell if it is tethered or not. I know some companies charge you to tether.
