Anyone activate a smartphone recently? Like a Droid?
I read on some other forum that Page Plus no longer allows you to activate smartphones. Is this true? I know many of you have done it, but has anyone done it recently? The reason I ask is because I am currently working on getting a Motorola Droid, and I plan on putting it on the Page Plus pay as you go plan.
I came across the thread when I searched google. It was on wirelessforums.org.
Here's what it said.
No. Verizon has prevented the Droid from being activated on PagePlus. I
think that PagePlus has pissed them off by offering plans that are so
much better than Verizon's own plans.
I just activated my Eris a couple of weeks ago with PP without a problem. BTW just installed rooted Kaos Froyo -- The phone is SWEEEEEEETTTTTT.
Regarding the towers.. I believe it (prepaid coverage) is inferior to Verizons normal plan. I dont have good reception in my room yet my gf (VW) has no problems.
i activated a droid incredible just about 4 weeks ago no problem and everything works fine. before the incredible i had a droid on pageplus for 6 months, no worries go for it

Just curious, is your phone and your GF's identical including the brand, model, OS, prl, radio module, etc. I have 6-7 family members plus 4 neighbors with VZ and there appears to be no difference at all in my coverage at my house or theirs. There are occasionally signal strength bar differences (3 bars vs 4 bars) but no indication of actual coverage / call quality / data rate differences. Not saying it isn't possible technically but it would be a lot of trouble to go through for questionable (if any) payback.

Yes, I just activated the Moto Devour on PP for free off the dealer page. I have 20 free minutes. My wifi working. No data, but I didn't want data anyway, just wifi is fine for me.
That's basically what I want to do, no data just wifi. But can you use data if you wanted to? Also, on the Droid could you use Google Maps without a data plan? And is that a special sale you found or something?
