The main difference is if you get in a place where the reception is bad and you have Rocket 2.0 you're in trouble. Rocket 2.0 has no antenna port.

Rocket 2.0 is a little smaller and it folds at the usb connector to fit in tight places while the rocket simply retracts. I did find the rocket 2.0 has worse reception, even without adding an antenna. Rocket also works with cradlepoint router while the 2.0 does not work. Rocket works with t-mobile software on mac, but for 2.0 you have to enter settings manually. Rocket is free at store, rocket 2.0 costs about fifty bucks.

My Rocket 2.0 was also Free. I did have to pay 35.00 for activation charges.. But I will say this I only have one bar of service..I was also told that there is a spot for an antenna on the side of the Rocket 2.0 but it is hidden and u have to find it..I did find a spot by pushing in the sides of the rocket..but the spot is not round it is more triangular shaped..The antenna I was told would work had a round end..and will not work with the 2.0 that I can see..my book shows something like a small card in that hole..maybe someone may know what it is used for..and can tell me..tyvm for all your help..

The latest firmware update supports rocket 2.0 on cradlepoint routers.
