Hello took a look around not having alot of luck was wondering if someone could post a link or tell me the steps to Tether the Telus Iphone 4 to my computer. I just recieved the 16gb with the 6gb data plan almost took the HTC desire but thought I would try this first thanks allot for the help.

Hi I have tethering turned on in the iphone menu it just does not give me the option to access it on my computer it lets me use the phone memory but no option to connect to the internet there must be a setting or something I am missing seems like a really nice phone though.
Well, once it's turned on in the menu, it "should" connect automatically. The first time you plug it in with tethering enabled, it should install a thing called Apple mobile ethernet or something like that. Once that is installed correctly, just monitor this connection and make sure it gets a valid IP address and after that you should be good to go. Also, if everything is normal, you should see a blue bar on top of your iphone saying "internet tethering" on the lockscreen.
That said, I have had problems trying to tether that way. It worked a couple of times (windows 7 x64 pro) but lately, it just wouldn't acquire a valid IP address. I ended up installing MyWi on my jailbroken phone and enable the usb tethering option and it works great with that.
Hi I am running windows 7 64 bit and I also have a old XP labtop it recognizes the phone but gives no option to Tether wonder if there is something 3rd party I could install that would make it work wih no chance of screwing the phone up not sure if Jailbreaking has that chance frustrating its a lovely phone but tethering is my no 2 reason to get this besides making phone calls any thoughts ?
Solution found you must also have a current version of apple itunes installed I type this on my tethered Iphone 4 silly that Apple makes you install there software but if it works it works thanks for the helpful suggestions maybe this thread will help others.
Hint: Iphone does not need any dialer or connection software on the PC. Once enabled it's a full time always on connection. If your computer has multiple network interfaces you just need to make sure anything with a higher priority setting is disconnected or disabled (turn off your wifi radio, unplug your ethernet connection, etc)
You can check your IP address in the computer just like you would with wifi or ethernet. If your IP address is not starting with 169.254.xxx.xxx you should be ok. With the standard iphone APN on Telus you would usually get an IP address starting with the number 10.xxx.xxx.xxx. If you have VPN access bundle and have changed your iphone APN settings to use it you would get a public IP address but I expect anyone who knows what that means doesn't need to read about setup instructions to figure it out.
