T-Mobile to offer 42Mbps service in 2011 + current network footprint expansion
Just got this via email:
T-Mobile expands HSPA+ network footprint; plans to offer faster speeds in 2011
Today, T-Mobile USA, Inc. announced the continued expansion of its super-fast mobile broadband network to 100 million Americans in more than 55 major metropolitan areas.
T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network – which offers theoretical peak throughput speeds of 21Mbps – is now available in Boston, Mass.; Erie, Penn.; Fresno, Palm Springs and San Diego, Calif.; Miami, Fla.; Richmond, Va.; Spokane, Wash.; and Topeka, Kan.
“Our new network offers today’s available 4G speeds to more people than any other wireless network in the country and we’re not done yet. We are now on pace to more than double our HSPA+ footprint – reaching more than 200 million people by this year – with plans to offer 42Mbps theoretical speeds in 2011,” said Neville Ray, chief network officer for T-Mobile USA.

I'd see the 3G (or 3.xG) getting much expanded (at least as much as 2G) in order to launch native video conference (no software, just phone to phone or phone to computer).
3G is strong here in college area. You can expect how massive the traffic here.
Sprint/Boost is kinda slow here.
T-Mobile is fine (nexus one mobile hotspot).
Now they need to ditch the throttling caps or increase them commensurate with the speed to reflect where abuse would lie, considering the capability of the network.
I hope the population references to coverage mean that it won't be GPRS once you get outside of any major city.
“A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover
that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.
From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates
who promise the most benefits from the public treasury,
with the result that every democracy will finally collapse
due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship”
T-Mobile, upgrade your GPRS and EDGE networks to 3G first! They still have vast areas of the country with GPRS only (like much of the Northern Sacramento Valley here in NorCal), have they forgotten about those?
3G is expanding, PR just got 3G, and other areas, incessantly complaining about it here of all places won't change what T-Mobile higher ups are doing.
Well, that's why we have HoFo, so we can vent and talk about things, free speech and all that They may be exapnding 3G, but not at a quick pace by any means. That's great about PR, but it doesn't do much good for the rest of us in the 50 States. I take it you don't leave Las Vegas or Reno much? If you did, you'd realize just how small their 3G footprint is, and how much of their network is still GPRS. T-Mobile's a great company, don't get me wrong, I'd just like to see them pick up the pace a bit.

there is sucha thing as beating a dead horse and that's exactly what you're doing
mmmm.... GPRS. I remember when GPRS was cool, CSD really wasn't fun.
Lafayette, LA's HSPA+ network is surrounded by GSM/GPRS coverage, that's a pretty sharp cliff. EDGE is available only in the 3G zones. They probably should do something about that...
Any possibility that HSPA+ will have better building penetration? All I'm getting inside the house is edge. The moment I stand in the front and backyard, I get good 3G speed
I'm still waiting for T-Mobile to switch on their 3G in my area. It's been two months since the 3G network first appeared on a manual network selection and it's still there just for show. Selecting it always bounces the phone back to EDGE.

MIMO will be required for HSPA+, I haven't really looked into how this translates for 42Mbps HSPA+ coverage. The 21Mbps upgrade shouldn't change much at all

More than a few different people have reported 3G coverage going live, you might just be there on the edge of the 3G network, being able to see it at home but not connect. That is if you don't get it elsewhere.
