Sorry it took so long to get back, busy couple weeks...
Google Voice doesn't have local numbers in my area, or I would be *all over* that.
"I want a local number" resolution:
-----------------------------------------
After being told by PP customer service there weren't any local numbers available in my area, I opened a callcentric account and requested my specific area through them. I was waiting for about a week (their website says usually one or two business days) and still had not received a local number, so I decided to try calling Page Plus one last time...
It was about a 1/2 hr call with a CSR, and after trying to get a local number again, he came to the same result as before, the closest number I could get was 1/2 west of me, and still long distance.
At this point I started talking to him about porting a number in if I was able to get it from somewhere else (without mentioning callcentric). He asked me for an example number, so I gave him my land line, and he said that would be un-portable because.... Verizon doesn't have any coverage in my area...
Finding that very odd... since there is a Verizon store 10 mi north of me, and another 10 mi south of me... I asked what service he sees for me, and he listed:
us cellular, local telco, another nearby telco, midwest wireless, blah, blah blah... at which point I interrupted.
(prevously had been Cellcomm) ==> Midwest Wireless ==> Alltel ==> Verizon
After telling him this, he 'tried using midwest wireless' (not sure what that means) 'oh, now it's telling me verizon' and he was able to get me the prefix I had originally requested on his first try. SUCCESS!
Also, callcentric still hadn't been able to get my a local number, so I requested my account cancelled through them, and not only did they respond within hours, but they refunded every penny I had given them, depsite having an account for just over a week.
All good news on my end, happy with a local number, and don't plan to change it again any time soon
shughes
there my be an issue getting a Chillicothe number because there are coverage holes in that area. If there isn't full coverage to an area, getting a number local to that area is little tricky. Chillicothe specifically.
