It is possible to do this. There are devices by Zoran and Cradlepoint that work very well.
Be mindful of the 5GB limit on unlimited plans, 5GB sure goes fast on the 3G network. After 5GB, they cut your speeds significantly.

Does anyone know of the possibility to use T-Mobile webConnect for home internet? Can the USB modem be connected to an access point or router and therefore provide wi-fi at home? Has anyone tried this and what equipment would be required?
Thanks!

I use my webConnect Rocket 1.0 usb with a Cradlepoint phs300 router as my home Internet connection and travel router. It works great and I haven't had any issues. Cradlepoint have several models, the CTR500 is excellent for home use and has the option of adding an antenna to extend signal range.
Yeah, I'm not sure if I can meet the 5Gb limit. However, I don't even know what my current usage is. And, we are three people in our house using the internet.
Well, if you all do a lot of Music streaming, Downloading Music and Movies, and or Online Gaming. 5gb will definitely not be enough. If you guys just do regular web browsing, youtube, and occasionally download some songs. You all should be fine with the 5gb/Unlimited.
I web surf, watch a lot of YouTube videos & movies, and do audio streaming of Coasttocoast radio 4 hr program a few times a week. Currently I'm at 4.3gb with 7 days left till my next billing period.
You can live with the cap if you go to starbucks for all of your system updates and avoid large files. Streaming is limited. Once you hit the cap you will experience dial up type speeds (100kps), but when the month ends, you speeds will return.
I did this with my laptop and even considered a drive by with the iMac in the back of the car, but then I went back to cable.
i do it just fine, as my web usage is all over the place, i tether my bold when i run out of data on the webstick and so far it's worked out ok, but then again i have a mac so it's not like i have GBs of system updates to download monthly

With the latest 1.7.5 firmware update, the Cradlepoint MBR 900 supports the WebConnect Rocket and the Rocket 2.
Another trick I read on the forum is to switch to edge on your phone once you hit the cap. They don't restrict the edge speed when you hit 5gb. Works for internet surfing and email, but not netflix streaming very well.
Has anyone had disconnect problems with the Rocket and Rocket 2 and the Cradlepoint Router. If yes, have you found any solution so it will not regularly disconnect?
I have the Rocket 2.0 and its terrible and it very well could be the area I am in..I can only get one bar of service. It is crazy bad..I need to know if someone can help me..I have talked with the Technical Department and they are of no help at all..they just waste my time..I ordered the 16ft USB Active high speed repeater cable..hoping to get an additional line of service to better my internet surfing and game play..However after reading online it is my understanding that the router Cradlepoint MBR 900 works with the Rocket 2.0..device. I just need to know if it will improve my bars in my area as well...Amazon has it for 149.00.. if anyone knows the answers to my questions I would appreciate all the help I can get...
I pull a consistant 6-9Mbps here in Phoenix sitting ~100dBm on my Rocket 1.0 (0 bars H+ in connection manager), and my ping times are always ~50ms
i eventually say you have a bad unit? I also like the Rocket 1.0 because it has a place for an external antenna, those tend to help a lot more than the usb cables
Well I have a 2yr plan on my Rocket 2.0, and they will let me out of the plan if I can prove that they can't get me the service I subscribed for, so now they have asked me twice to give them 72hrs for a tech to go out to the tower and see if they can adjust it to get me more bars. As far as the 1.0 Rocket they don't even sell it in the stores anymore..I ordered a 16ft 2.0 USB High Speed Repeater..but my unit says it has a 1.0 interface...so should I have ordered a 1.0 Repeater? I was told I need a 2.0. Repeater...just wondering...in the mean time I am going to order the suggested router..I sometimes get 2bars..which is very seldom...How do I adjust my unit for EDGE..I noticed if I open the usage meter up it has a lot of EGDE listed...is this better for me? Can I manually adjust it for better reception as not to be charged for overage? One more question..my T-Mobile cell phone goes back in forth from T-Mobile with only 1bar of service to AT&T with 4bars of service..now my question is why can my Rocket 2.0 do the same..I asked this of the Techs and they say it cannot..but my cell phone can..
Where do you live? if you're phone is bouncing between roaming and native service in your house, there is no way that the webstick is going to give you any decent service whatsoever
and it is correct, the websticks do not roam, you only get native signal only with them.
Plug your address into the PCC website, that alone should tell you how it's going to work based off the map
I got out of the data plan by filing a complaint with the BBB (seattle). T-mobile actually responds and the customer service rep is able to do things with your account that are "impossible" when you try to work through customer service. I even got to keep the rocket connect 2.0, which is of little use, since I don't have the data plan and the imei is blocked on my other lines.
how do you set an internet home screen?
