I am a little confused. My Verizon phone was able to roam on GSM because they used TDMA. Tell it was shutdown. The phone recognizes it as Analog. If PCS has TDMA, It could be technically be used on GSM.

Hmm, oh well. I barely ever used the unlock feature unless I'm in USA using AT&T and I don't think they would sell me a prepaid micro sim.
Hey Andrew, go buy a regular sized sim with GoPhone, activate it, go into an ATT store and tell them you lost your sim card and ask for a microsim. That's what I did. Easy.
I have an unlocked iPhone 4 (v3.2.1 b03.10.01). I know it's unlocked because I am under contract in Canada on Rogers. I've also used it in the US with my ATT GoPhone SIM.
This happened purely by luck because my jailbroken/unlocked iPhone 4 malfunctioned and I got a new one under warranty. When I took it to the US, I popped the SIM in and it magically worked!
I'm considering upgrading to iOS 4.3. Do you think if I do this I will lose my unlock status?
I just did a restore, and it didn't give me any messege whether my iphone was unlocked or not..........I just popped in a different SIM, and it works fine...........because I know it was carrier unlocked, otherwise how wud one find out if he was buying it from someone claiming that its factory unlocked...........
Of course u cud always see by updating the phone and try a different SIM, but what if the phone already is running the latest firmware. I think people are already hacking the 4.3, and unlocking the iphone.
unless the seller has a reciept or is willing to meet at the Apple store.

Yup, I've never gotten the "Congratulations..." message in iTunes with my officially unlocked iPhone 4. It's still a mystery to me why some people get it and some don't.

To verify factory-unlocked status (or officially carrier-unlocked status) I would restore the phone from scratch, let iTunes activate it, and then try a few different SIMs (T-Mobile, Softbank, Vodafone, etc.) If they work you're good to go.

Doesn't matter if it's on the latest OS/baseband or not. If you do a restore, everything will get wiped and done over from scratch. It's a safe test.
When my cousin bought an iPhone 4 and was unsure, I tried my Rogers sim and it worked. I headed to the mall, paper clip in hand, walked into the Bell store and borrowed a sim from the salesperson and tried it. Worked fine.
