Donno if any one noticed it yet. Since tonight, my phone got full bars at UBC area. I usually just 2-3 bars maximum. I guess they must launched some new antennas near UBC.
Can any one else see the signal improvement near UBC area?

For me the key spots would be in the SUB main floor and basement; in the University Village basement; and in the interior ground floor of all the Chemistry buildings. If I can't get those spots then I'm not switching until late November at the earliest...
They've shown a tower on campus on canadiancow's tower map for a couple months now; they've probably just finally managed to cut through all the on-campus red tape and get it turned on just in time for the new term.

I remember seeing one on the map before (Acadia Park I think?) but I was never able to prove that it was active. I think the only towers giving me reception on campus the day I tested were one from across the water in West Van and the one at Blanca.
If you look at canadiancow's map this very moment, there is no UBC tower at all.

Yeah I just caught that. Only one new tower? I wonder how useful that'll be for my needs. I guess the only way to find out is to have a test SIM again.
i went around ubc running the coverage mapper. Coverage is pretty good wherever I was. Coverage died underground in some of the older buildings (made of concrete and bricks) and SUB basement coverage is nearly none. Indoor at ground level and above seemed fine wherever I was though.
My guess is that the coverage has come from this mast: http://campl.us/ipi that a friend of mine saw being erected at UBC last week.
If it IS that then they've been damn quick about getting it on the network. But then they didn't really have any wiggle-room when students are back in 3 days time!
The photo looks like a crane erecting a tower crane. It looks a little too hardcore for a cell tower.
You're probably right. I seem to remember someone saying that WIND has no 'towers' as such - all their antennas are purely masts on top of tall buildings.
there appears to be one tower somewhere near westbrook mall between university boulevard and 16th ave.
There appears to be also another tower up north near the sub up at the north end of campus.
And I think they will install a third tower near the south end of campus on the west side.
Note: the above is pure speculation based on the data I collected going around UBC this week.

For anyone who's testing the network at UBC, please kindly consider walking through the Chemsitry buildings and seeing what you get. Particularly block A (Chem/Physics), C (central block) and D (where the main office is).
