New Huawei Phone Announced, Looks Good for $175

Judging by how we have a lot of Huawei phones already...

    http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/...ideos-handset/

The Ideos handset comes complete with a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen display (320 x 240), 528 MHz processor, 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera (no flash), HSDPA 3G, Wi-Fi, 3G hotspot capabilities, and a micro-SD card slot. The device carries the “with Google” moniker (which means no Android skinning of any kind) and Huawei touted that Google was heavily involved in the designing of the Ideos.
It looks like it'll essentially be equivalent to the Magic/Hero, but at an affordable price.

Engadget has some more shots of it here.

It really looks like what the U8100 should've been.

I'm interested as to why Google had a hand in designing this phone. There's nothing really special about its contents so...?

I wouldn't buy one of these phones for two reasons. First, I can't pronounce the stupid name and second, I have only ever heard very bad things about them. My friend bought the most recent one U8100 and he is leaving WIND because of the quality issues that I personally blame on his phone because I don't get the same issues with the BB9700.

I can understand the cheapy phone being garbage even though it shouldn't be either or why sell it, but the $140 phone and now this one are probably both garbage as well. Personally, I would never buy from this crappy cell phone maker.

Funny how we all just assume that any new Huawei that comes out will be on Wind soon, isn't it?

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that T-Mobile is “in talks to distribute Huawei Technologies Co.’s new Google-powered smartphone this holiday season.”

google didn't help design it. Google allows phone makers the opportunity to label, under certain conditions, their phones as google phones. that seems to be what they did here. don't read too much into it.

it's bad form to label something as garbage when you haven't seen one touched one or read a review of one. Scuse me but it seems you have an agenda here. by all accounts it's a decent phone at a very reasonable price.

lol read the whole post and don't worry about my 'agenda'. This forum is for opinions and I posted mine. My opinion formed from these forums complaining of the cheap Huawei phones being garbage and my friend buying the more 'expensive' Huwaei phone and still having serious issues with it. I posted my opinion, nothing more.

Edit: In addition, how is your opinion of the phone being decent without having seen it or used it any different? Some people have serious egos on the internet. Check your own words before you criticize others!

Haha seriously how do you pronounce Huawei?!

But while I've never seen let alone touch one, I too have formed an opinion of these phones and they don't seem good. Also, hasn't this company been in several lawsuits for stolen company information. That's a company I'd rather not support. I wish WIND would get some decent phones from more reputable companies.

    Um, for starters:

    1. It's pronounced Hua-Wei, like it's written.
    2. Almost all Chinese companies have a history of corporate espionage. It happens with US companies too.
    3. Huawei is one of the world's largest and reputable suppliers of LTE and telecommunications equipment.

Not all of us are Chinese, or Asian for that matter. So in phonetics this would be "Hoo-Ah Wee"? Kinda like "Who Are We"?

Stuff made in China is bad enough, so designed and built there.. Pass!

Still never heard of them until WIND started offering their phones. I don't care if Obama, Steve Jobs, or the queen rolled with a Huawei handset, I've still never heard of them and would likely never buy one. I saw a video on YouTube of the U8100 (or some variant of it) and it looked like it ran Android like ****.

Unfortunately for you, the name of the brand is written in English phonetics. It's very clearly Hua-Wei. Sorry.

PS: The performance of the U8100 matches the HTC Magic/Hero as it has the same processor. In fact, it should be faster, judging by how it has to render less real estate on the screen.

    Please no more trolling...

Yes, this would make it the same size as the already existing U8100. There have been some complaints about the size, but I believe the U8150's capacitive screen is the main selling point.
