Suggestions for a Decent Sub-$100 for WIND?

I'm looking to help my mom sign up for the $15 plan. Since Wind doesn't have the same kind of subsidized phones as the main carriers, I'm going to have to get a phone either from Wind or elsewhere. Can someone give me a suggestion on a decent sub-$100 phone that can also support Chinese characters? It's not mandatory to have Chinese character support, but it would be nice.

Sony Ericson TM506, I find it to be more successful with the elderly crowd.

Buy it here from Mobilicity, it's $99

I also hear this phone is ready to go out of the box, unlocked.

    What's with the mobilicity branding?

Stupid question in regards to Wind. I know that for 3G it uses the 1700mhz, but what about GSM/2G usage? Does it use the same 850mhz and 1900mhz as Rogers?

it's sold only through mobilicity right now for the AWS brand, and it is priced at the $100 mark. It also works for WIND.
WIND doesn't have any old 2G technology, they started their build out on the 3G network. So no GSM or 2G phone will work on WIND, only on WIND AWAY which as we know is just a fancy term for Rogers.

Thx for the clarification. So Wind only utilize the 1700/2100mhz frequencies? Basically I need to get a phone to support that or it won't work with Wind?

You may to order the TM506 online as it's apparently sold out at Mobilicity -- according to MobileSyrup at any rate.

If you do get it at Mobilicity, make sure to unlock it.

They still have this in stores. It's completely unlocked; the only phone sold by Mobilicity that is. I'm seeing quite a few posts about this and in every case people have indicated that the phone is completely unlocked.

I actually took a chance on one when the sales rep insists that it's locked to Mobilicity. Took it home, works fine with WIND and Fido. Completely unlock. You just have to deal with the Mobilicity logo.

No, just 1700, not 2100. There are a bunch of threads going into detail about it if you care to read up on it, but the important thing to keep in mind that all you care about is UMTS Band IV or AWS or 1700 in the spec sheet. Pretend 2100 doesn't exist. Your life will be much easier that way.
Please don't PM me asking questions that could very easily be asked publicly.

Band I/1 = IMT, 2100 (rarely wrongly referred to as 1900/2100)
Band II/2 = PCS, 1900 (never wrongly referred to as 1800/1900)
Band III/3 = DCS, 1800 (never wrongly referred to as 1700/1800)
Band IV/4 = AWS, 1700 (often wrongly referred to as 1700/2100)
    Band V/5 = CLR, 850
    Band VIII/8 = GSM, 900

    The Rogers Lumia 710 only has 1, 2, 4, 5

You referring to the FAQ? If so, I briefly read it, but I thought it was kind of stupid that it didn't answer it in simple terms. All I want to know was which frequencies that Wind uses and it didn't explicitly explained that other than going into the details that I didn't want to know.

The FAQ, yeah, and 50 other threads. Simple answer is Wind uses 1700MHz only.

UMTS/HSPA 1700. That's it. That is ALL you need to look for. End of story. That is the only spectrum they own.
