I'm looking to get a data add-on so that my wife can use BBM and Facebook on my old BB. What options are out there? I'm hoping that I can get something where I don't need to renew her contract.

I was addeded to friend's account as "Level 1" authorized user. I know that I cannot cancel the account, but can I call retentions to negotiate retentions plan? The account has two lines. Can I negotiate a plan for both in one call?

    yes and yes.

You need to have your friend's "pin" for his/her account (what they ask him/her to authentifiate).

You tell the name of the person , phone number and pin, and after you say you are "X" and level 1.

    You can do anything except:
    1) cancel line
    2) add line
(according to my knowledge, might not be complete).

I did it for stepparents, I am level 1 on their account, I negociated both lines in 1 call (well I called many times, but I was always taking about both lines).

If I signed up on a month to month with rogers and called in after a few months for retentions, would I have any leverage?

Probably not ... because any retention plans they offer would probably commit you for 2-3 years. I could see getting Call Display at no cost or maybe the $10 Value Pack but most of what they can offer they would want something in return for ...

Sorry, I should be more clear.

If I sign up as a new account on month to month, go to retentions and do agree on a 2-3 year contract, what are my chances haha

I was going to do the same thing and port from Telus as well, but I decided to go another route and take over an account from a long-time Rogers customer. We managed to negotiate a sweet plan before I did the TOR. If you can't find somebody to do that with, I have heard from another former Telus user that another way to approach it would be to sign a 3-year contract, but call retentions within the first 14 days and say you want to cancel and port back to Telus if you can't get a better plan. I believe the policy is 30 mins/14 days to cancel without penalty, so you should be able to get something out of them.

    My New Rogers Plan
    - $35 Unlimited Local Calling Plan
    - $30 6GB Data
    - $10 Retention Value Pack - Free (2500 texts, CID, VM)
    - 100 mins LD - Free
    - $67 + tax

    Bite me Telus.

I don't want to lose my number though. I've got a bunch of business cards that I don't want reprinted as a result haha.
But I think I'll go that route and call on the 12th day or something

I'm kinda hoping for the plan you have. haha.

    I'll post my results.

From what I understand you need 6 months of tenure prior to retentions being able to offer you anything. I have one line that is on month to month and 6 months is now, so I will be calling this week to see what they can do for me.
    Line 1 - iPhone $47.74 ($34.55 + $6.95 + $0.75 + tax)
    250 min, 6gb, 6pm EW, CD, CID, VM, R2R, 100 min LD....
    Line 2 - BB $42.61 ($30 + $6.95 + $.0.75 + tax)
    250 min, 500mb, 6pm EW, CD, CID, VM, R2R, 100 min LD....
    Line 3 - $25.37 ($15 + $6.95 + $0.50 +tax)
250 min, 6pm EW, CD, CID, VM, R2R, 100 min LD....
    Line 4 - BB $82.15 ($65 + $6.95 + $0.75 + tax) needs work
350 min, 6gb, 5pm EW, CD, CID, VM, R2R, UL incoming, 100 min LD....
Line 5 - Android - Just added bill is a mess

I currently am on a retention plan (that I got in April). I pay 35 + tax for

    CD-VM-2500txt
    6pm Eve/Weekends
    Unlimited incoming
    300 anytime mins

So, I'm still kinda new to the whole retention deal, but I'm looking to get a data plan now (since the Captivate is around the corner, hopefully lol). I have about 7 months left on my 3 year contract.

What would be the best way to approach the situation, in terms of negotiation?

Well I'm looking for some advice.

Let me start off that I've been with rogers for awhile now. I've started off under my dad for 3 years, then went onto pay as you go for ~2 years, then I went on my own 3 year contract. I'm about 4 months away from the end of my contract. I'm currently thinking about picking the new black berry 9800 torch or perhaps iphone 4.

I've never attempted retention either, and I've been reading around but I haven't seen many posts about people going on retention and grabbing a new phone at the same time. As well I'm not trying to low ball them either, i just want something decent for a moderate price (as I'm a student).

I'm looking somewhere along the lines of:

    ~250min daytime
    1000 txt with MMS.
    CID, VM, CW.
    6pm E/W
    R2R
    some data (1GB to 6GB since there's a promo i hear)

I'm aiming for somewhere along the lines of ~$50 before taxes.

Any suggestions and comments (how to get started) would gladly be appreciated.

    Thanks

P.S. I've never had a BB before, but I hear you need a BB package?
