Aaaand now I got through to Retentions, got 200 minutes, early evenings and weekends at 6 pm, call display and voicemail, 2500 texts and the fabled 6gb data plan for $54.93 plus tax. Exactly what I wanted too. It probably helped that my account is, for some reason, classified as a business account by Rogers. They were going to send me to the business department but business was closed so, almost as an afterthought, I was sent to Retentions. Why I have a business account I do not know. I never set my account up as one. It worked in my favor, so I'm not complaining. Business is good, it seems.

Good stuff Air King; and yes, normal reps are nearly useless for plan negotiations. I always call retentions direct (the rogerswatch blog [https://rogerswatch.wordpress.com/] almost always has a direct number). In fact, I call retentions whenever I have to deal with almost ANYTHING to do with my account heh.
6GB data is available to government/business; but still not easy to get, so as iridescence said - count yourself lucky.
Anyway, congrats, enjoy the benefits of your efforts.

Hi all!
In december 2008 I signed for a tree year contract with Rogers. I was with Telus before.
Here is the plan I got at that time :
- 200 minutes
- Unlimited Evening/Week-end starting at 6pm
17.50$
- 10 000 SMS/MMS / Unlimited In
- 500mb data (can works as a modem)
- Caller Id with Name
- "Who called" option
- Advanced voicemail (10 messages, etc.)
- Detailed billing
30$
- Evening starting at 5pm
2$
- My SIM card works on my USB modem stick without problem and I can tether my phone via Bluetooth, Wifi (joikuspot) and USB also.
Total before taxes : 49.50$
Total with taxes and network fees : 64.31$
I would like to change my phone (I have a Nokia E71 bought unlocked, I took the Krzr K1 while signing for my contract)
I still have 8 months to go.
I would like to have 1gb per month for data (and still use my phone as a modem and use my USB stick with my SIM card). I am willing to let go the 5pm evening to switch back to 6pm evening unlimited. Would like to have a little more minutes, may 250 or 300. Is that possible or am I asking too much?
Will I be able to take a new phone (Maybe the Acer Mt or the iPhone 4) with a retention plan or will I have to wait to end my contract first?
Thanks!

I think you can get a HUP after 2 years.
HUP should be available to you; usually after 2years, or even 1.5yr they are happy to do it.
Negotiating for a 3yr renewal in return for 1GB data, and 50 bonus minutes at the same cost after tax shouldn't be a problem. Tethering (using your phone as modem) is available with the 1GB plan. Call up retentions, and use a 3yr contract as a bargaining chip.
you can call retentions directly at 514-734-7873 without needing to ask for a transfer.
^-- that can backfire if the rep sees you're calling direct and therefore is mentally prepared for someone who calls Retention a lot.
^-- that's why I advise people prefix the direct-RET ph num with #31# (dialing from cell) or *67 (dialing from wireline) - this probably blocks the CID the rep might see so they think the call is a normal transfer from CxS but that the Rog internal phone transfer system dorked the CID.
I'll tell ya a little secret ... one call I had into RET, direct dialed, the CxR rep thought I was the CxS rep for the first bit of our chat. Pity I didn't realize that until the CxR rep observed it - I could have really given myself a great lead-in before 'transferring' the call to myself ("We've really gotta pull out all the stops on this cx, we really did them wrong and we need to make it right. Here they are now, have a great day, pretend-click, Hello...")
Does rogers retentions still offer discounted handset pricing like they used to? If so, does anyone have access to the phones & current retention prices?
Pm me if you preffer.
thx!
I've called twice now and not getting what I want. I currently have a 3 phone family share plan (200 pooled per phone) 9 pm evenings/weekends and my5. Getting the value $12 and $15 on 2 phones while the last has nothing.
On average the 2 phones pay about $43 each while the last is $22 plus tax.
Would I be better off out of the family share and into regular plans? 95% of our calls use the my5 with only ~75 minutes used between cells.
I'm really interested in getting a smart phone but not interested in data (I have wifi in the house and don't need data/email on the go). As I understand it I need a data feature to get the discount but I get penalized only $100 if I cut off the data after getting the phones. Is this correct?
I'm going to try again but it's kinda annoying. I'm probably too nice (I used to be a CSR for Bell myself) and I hate to negotiate but I am about ready to leave for another carrier. Contract ends early Oct this year.
So far the best offer was $10 off the $40 smartphone value pack with 1 gig and that's it.
Any tips?
All I can suggest is be patient, call as often as necessary for either one of the two scenarios to occur:
- You get an agent who doesn't care about the company he/she works with and offers you anything they have in their book in order to close the call quickly and so get good stats.
- You get an agent who seems to have a head on their shoulder and you will be able to negociate with. (these are less common but make fo rthe best user experience) Be ready to offer good arguments though: long tenure, good payment history, not calling them all the time to get goodies (other than recently since you feel you are not being respected as a good client of theirs...) etc.
There are a lot of du*ba*ses & by-the-book people in there and once in a while you strike gold. Cherish those moments lol & GL!
Has anyone had any luck getting data sharing on the 6GB plan for less than $30/mo.? I know I can get it for $10/mo. if I switch to a 1GB plan.
I'd like to put a WWAN card in my laptop, but I don't want to give up my 6GB plan or pay an extra $30/mo. I'd rather just tether if that's the best they can offer.
