So, I signed up with Rogers in April 2009 with a 3 year contract. At the time I had a blackberry bold 9000, it just died, and my backup phone sucks.
I talked to retentions a couple of months ago, and I now have a plan with 500 minutes, and the blackberry 500mb, and 2500 text messages, it comes to around $79 including tax.
Retentions has "authorized" an early upgrade, but I was hoping to get a better plan, and a blackberry 9800.
Hopefully something that can compete with wind. What do you guys think I can get?
EDIT: I also have early evenings, voicemail, and rogers to rogers.
^Unlimited Network Calling -> Rogers-Rogers, Rogers-Fido, and Rogers-Rogers Home Phone. I'm on the 17.50 plan and had to ask for it because I was also under the impression that it should come with it...they added it without a problem as a $0 bonus.
wait so im correct in assuming that the 17.50 plan comes with UNC and 6pm built in? I was somehow a victim of fraud and rogers automatically gave me the 17.50 plan because my original corporate plan wasn't available anymore but they're charging me $7.00 for 6pm calling on top of the 17.50 and i dont have UNC. Is there any way to prove to them that the 17.50 plan has these features built in?

^ Somehow I'm getting the impression you don't quite get the whole concept of just how ymmv and RANDOM, the Retentions dept is.
There's no FRAUD here. Geez...Credits are avaialble whenever they are., it's up to you to ask for them, and fully at the discretion of the rep to admit they exist (1)..and offer them (2) to you LOL. These credits aren't HARD-CODED into the $17.50 plan., they're just "one-of-those-extra-credits-available"...Good Luck...and BREATHE....RELAX.

LOL...What I meant by fraud was that someone managed to change my corporate plan to the $50 student plan, change my home address and used my hardware upgrade credit to get an X10. Luckily UPS called my home number and wanted to verify the package, and I told them to return it to Rogers. On Rogers' end they werent able to restore my original plan I had pre-fraud so they gave me the 17.50 and the $20 smartphone VP to match what I had before, only prob is that it ended up costing $10 more. They gave me a $10 credit but this month I found that the credit was only for one month, which kind of irritated me.
I just wanted to know for sure if UNC and 6pm calling were built into the 17.50 plan thats all. If it involves negotiating with retentions then I get it. I was confused because "toolcube" put me under the impression that it was built into the plan.

Geez...I'm impressed UPS tried to verify address first. Finally some good work on their part!!!
NOW, I see what the issue is., yeah, that old VP was grand-fathered, so once it was taken off, there wasn't really an easy way to reinstate it. You need to learn, that when things like that come about., give retentions the opportunity to help you . If not., OOP (Office of the President) is where it's at. They do in minutes what you can struggle to just INITIATE in MONTHS...
I'm currently on Roger's with no contract, month to month voice plan, but am looking at getting an iPhone. I have read a lot of threads and see that many have data plans coming in well under $50.00 per month. How can I get similar? I'm willing to buy a phone outright if I can save on a plan.
I currently have:
$30.00 100 weekday min
50 bonus weekday min
unlimited eve/weekend 9pm
unlimited sent & received messages, txt, IM, Email, picture & video
2500 call forwarding min
conference calling
call waiting
$8.00 Call Display w/name display
$7.00 early evening 6pm
-$7.00 early evening discount
$2.58 grrf
$3.00 call forwarding/transfer
-$3.00 call forwarding/transfer
I called Rogers and was offered basically what I have but with 200 weekday min and 500mb data for $50.00 plus grrf & taxes. Or I can go with the student plan as I am a part time student, but it is also $50.00. It offers a little more but is still $50.00 plus.
There didn't seem to be much else available according to the rep.
I'd like to get down to around $50.00 including tax if possible. What I'd like:
150 to 200 weekday min
6pm eve & weekend
2500 txt
Call display
data
I have no need for call forwarding/transfer, call waiting, voice mail, long distance or unlimited text. Any suggestions?

POST - 1
================================================== ============
NEW to RETENTIONS and HOFO...
Our 3-year contract ends October 17th
We am interested in your advice as to the best possible Retention plan we can get for our usage.
Our Goal:
Primary: To reduce monthly expenses Secondary: Increase our services (but not by increasing our monthly expense)
Phone Type:
Mine: Motorola Razor V3... Although I am interested in getting a UNLOCKED iPhone 3G or HTC Wife's: LG cookie (KP500)
Our Usage:
Between us... Lots of Calls and Text messages Friends and others...We rarely go over our pooled 150 minutes because we use Skype. Additional voice minutes are a bonus, but not crucial. WiFi ONLY... We have no interest or use in paying for Data
Downloaded games
Note:
We won't do another 3-year contract
For the most part, we are happy with Rogers, although their customer service could be a lot better and most definitely they can improve on their rates.
Good customer service is providing the best they have to offer and customer loyalty is the simple result... not customer imprisonment with contracts for the crumbs they offer. I may consider a 1-year contract at best, but the deal would have to be really sweet and should not expire.
I'm not sure how realistic a good deal will come from retentions let a lone anything that will meet our needs or interests, but it never hurts to look and see whats out there.
Alternatives we are seriously considering...
1. Moving to another carrier... Wind... Telus/Bell if they have cheaper rates for switching to them
2. Rogers Pay as you go ($25 Early Nights & Weekends, which includes unlimited Talk and text to My5)
We really appreciate your insights,
Thanks for your time.

Reason: UPDATE - ROGERS 1ST OFFER
I'm looking at taking over a rogers contract with 1 year left on the voice (smart phone) and 2.5 years left on the Data.
If this plan gets transfer to my name with a new number, can I call retentions right away to negotiate a retentions plan or will I have to wait a while? Will I be eligible for a iphone HUP?

You're better off doing any negotiation on the plan before it gets transferred over. YMMV, but the reps are supposed to consider you a new customer, not eligible for promotions.
As for the phone, that entirely depends on when the previous owner last had a hup. While retentions has had stock a couple of times over the last month or so, there's no guarantee that they'll get it again - usually they don't have the iPhone at all through their department. So you might have to hope that it's close to two years since they last got a phone.

On WIND you can get any plan month to month, of course, but their network is new and your results in coverage could vary depending on where you live.
Bell, Telus and Rogers are all going to be the same - your best result is going to be on a contract, and since you're new to them, Bell and Telus aren't likely to give you much. From what I know, Telus especially is being stingy with credits for existing customers, let alone new ones.
You should have the greatest amount of leverage with Rogers, but you have to realise that if you're only going to sign on for a contract for one year, that's how long any discounts/promotions you get will last, other than the basic feature and plan. It's pretty clear that you're looking for something beyond the plans that are available, so if they're giving you credits or features for free, you have to accept that the credits will expire after the contract is over.

You're definitely much better off negotiating BEFORE the plan is transfered to your name. Afterwards might work but you might be taking a risk getting the plan into your name then having Rogers see you're a "new" customer and not negotiate for 6 months or whatever it is...
I receently did this, took over a contract with a few months left, but called in on behalf of the previous account holder to negotiate a plan, and then transfered it into my name.
I was a 10 year client with Telus with my plan coming to $140 and they refused to let me keep my plan telling me it was too "rich" lol, what a bunch of jokers. Meanwhile now I'm saving 40-50$ / mo on Rogers....
