As for the phone, that entirely depends on when the previous owner last had a hup. While retentions has had stock a couple of times over the last month or so, there's no guarantee that they'll get it again - usually they don't have the iPhone at all through their department. So you might have to hope that it's close to two years since they last got a phone.

The person I'm looking at taking the contract over is due for an upgrade next month, he hasn't had one for 2 years. If I call retentions before I do an upgrade (renew on a retention plan for 3 years with them), will it affect my HUP for an iphone?

How can I call on behalf of the person to negotiate a new plan? Does he have to give me access to his account?

    Thanks

Get him to 3-way you in on a call with Retentions, worked great for me when I did it a month ago. The hup shouldn't be affected, but I would get the rep to note the account to make sure. I did the hup about a month after the TOR and there were no issues.

    My New Rogers Plan

    - $67 + tax

If people with tenure who are on contract have trouble getting some of the good deals, what do you think your luck is going to be getting a retention deal on a new line without a contract?? Not to mention that even those who want to add a line on a contract can't negotiate at the beginning.

If you want a good deal month to month, check out WIND or one of the other new carriers.

@Kaddy - the HUP wouldn't be affected as long there have been two years since a HUP was done. You can either do the three way or get the person whose contract you are taking over to add you on as a level 1. Then you can negotiate contracts, etc.

    hi,

so i was with rogers for 3yrs on payg, then switched to postpaid when x10 came out this april.
I switched my plan to a corporate plan in june which changed my contract termination date to june 2013.
so.. I'm only 4 mth into my 3yr contract i guess..

    I was wondering..

my current copr plan is as follows:
    25$ -150 minutes, 6pm early and choose a feature ( i picked unlimited texting)
    -5$ discount
    +grrf
which comes to around $26 incl. tax every month.

however.. I would really really like to get a caller id..
when I was on prepaid, it was included and I honestly don't think it should cost them 8 or whatever bux they charge on postpaid...

so is it possible to negotiate switching a plan??
I don't need a new phone and I don't care if my term gets pushed back to october 2013... lol

I think epp includes 200 minutes and 6pm for 17.50 and if I add on the 10$ value pack, it will be just like my original plan except I'll have CID added to it

I've heard of some people who call in right after they get into contract and get free CID and stuff.. how do you do it??
If I could switch into the 17.50 epp + free valuepack($10 - $10disc.).. it'd be awesome.. I don't mind paying what I currently pay, so even a $7.50 discount instead of $10 is okay too..

I hope someone can help me...

    PS. about the tenure thing..
i have technically been with rogers for 6mth (postpaid).. i just changed my plan 2mth in which extended my term by 2mths..
so will i still have a leverage? and also if I do manage to change to another plan with CID, do i have to wait another 1yr~2yr for hup?
or can i just wait 6mth~1.5 year to hup (since i haven't gotten a new hardware for 6 mth)

It seems I have the 6PM Early Evening option twice on my bill.

There's a "Early Evening/Weekend 6pm" that shows as 0$, and also a "6PM Early Eve. Calling Option" that costs 5$ and is coupled with a "Early Eve. Calling Credit" of -5$.

I'm thinking of calling in and trying to get that 5$ credit switched to a Monthly Plan Credit instead? How easy would this be?

    Thanks

6PM shows up twice on my bill aswell.
I wouldn't mind paying the price that showed up before taxes if it was the $35 unlimited local, but that would require another $10 credit.

I don't feel like calling in anyway.

Depends on the plan/credits/tenure you already have. If you don't have a highly discounted plan already, it may be pretty easy. If you're already getting a lot of credits, you're probably going to be told no, because really, that credit is just a hang-over from a feature you still have for free anyway.

    Some basic questions about Retentions

I've been a cellphone customer since the mid-ninties, but have NEVER called retentions to negotiate a deal. Against my better judgement, 2 years ago, I apparently agreed to a 3 year commitment.

My current situation is as follows:

    - Rogers customer for 2 years (with Fido for 5 years prior to that if it makes a difference)
    - Completed 2 years of a 3 year contract
    - Current plan is 200 W/D, 500 MD Data, VM + CID, UL E/W 9pm, UL INC, SAF for $65 per month

I have purchased a new, unlocked iPhone and am looking to do one of the following:

    1. Negotiate a better price plan
    2. Pay my ECF and go to another carrier (the savings from switching will almost pay for the ECF)

So I have some basic questions about trying to get a retentions deal ...

    1. How do you get to retentions? Do I have to threaten to cancel my contract? What if they take me up on that offer without any negotation and then I lose my number?

    2. If I do negotiate a new plan, do they require you to sign a contract? I am willing to complete the remaining year of my contract (if I get a good plan), but I refuse to sign anything longer ever again. Will they only apply the discounts for the time period that you are under contract, or can you negotiate discounts for the lifetime of you being a customer?

    3. When I last spoke with Roger's, I questioned them about my "contract". I didn't believe some of the terms and conditions, so I asked them to send me a copy of the contract that showed I had agreed to these terms and conditions. They stated that they do not keep copies of any contracts and that they cannot send me anything showing that a contract was entered into. They said that if a contract end date was showing on their screen, it meant that I had agreed to it. I find this very odd that a company would NOT keep any records of the contracts it enters into with the customers. Is this true? The reason I am quesitoning this is that I bought the phone at Future Shop for a discounted price, but I don't recall ever signing any papers. There was paperwork that was shown to me, but I never actually signed anything. So I don't think that constitutes a legal agreement. Is this perhaps why they won't send me a signed copy of my contract, because I never signed one? What proof do they need to provide in order to charge me the ECF fees?

Sorry if there is already and FAQ that explains the above, but I couldn't find it on this site.

    1. You have 30 days to reinstate your account with the same phone number.
    2. I've renegotiated my plan and haven't extended my contract. However I have not done any HUP either.
    3. It is up to you to prove that the contract is invalid. Paperwork is a formality. Technically payment and exchange of goods is enough ground to prove acceptance of contract.

    1. Call in and say that you're thinking about cancelling because of better pricing, the rep should transfer you. Or you could just call in and ask for Customer Relations outright, and give the same reasons when they ask why.

    2. Depends on how good a deal you're looking to get - when you say you can save money switching, do you know that it's month to month with the other carrier? That'll give you leverage if you want to stay on your existing contract, but don't be surprised if you at least get asked to extend.

    3. You could check with Futureshop to see if they have a copy of the contract - but you would have recieved notification on your bill of the contract date, and you just admitted that you got a subsidy on the phone, why did you think that was without a contract?

Soundstream, I've had similar issues with Rogers. In my approx. 10 years as a client I have talked to retentions 3 times, all of which were in the last year. Here are some answers:

    1. Last time I spoke to retentions, once the initial rep got my info I simply asked to be transferred to retentions and she did it. Previously I said I'm thinking of moving over to Bell (which I was) and got transferred.

    2. Not necessarily but many times they will ask you to commit to a contract. I have negotiated down from a 3 year commitment to a 1 year commitment but it depends on the rep. For me, 1 year commitment wasn't a problem but 3 years was not something I was willing to accept.

    3. When I signed up for a data plan last year there was no mention of contract when I was speaking to the rep. While browsing my account online I noticed that there was a contract associated to it and called in to complain. They waived the contract immediately. However, there was no hardware purchase associated to my plan so that probably made things easier.
    Client of Robbers:

    Unlimited Voice Plan
    6GB BlackBerry (BIS) Data Plan
    100 Anytime Canadian LD Mins
    Value Pack
    $73.13

Formerly $58.13 until credits ran out and reps became EXTREMELY un-cooperative!!

Thanks for your responses. I am not disputing that I verbally agreed to a 3 year contract. I am fine with the ECF for the voice portion. Where I feel I was slighted was with the data contract. I was told when I signed up that the data portion was only a 1 year commitment. So I was surprised when I was told by a customer service rep that I had to pay the full data ECF.

Payment of my bill does not automatically mean that I approved all terms and conditions, especially if I was not correctly informed of them in the first place. Basically, my gripe is that I was lied to by Futureshop, so I am quite disappointed in having to pay the data ECF.

My guess is that they will make me sign another 3 year contract, which I refuse to do as one of the reasons I want to leave is to be out of a contract.

Anyways, thanks for all your advice. I'll call next week and see what happens.

Not necessarily. I recently renewed my contract, noticed the $6.95SAF and the 911 fee are no longer charged, told my brother about it and he called in today to complain that he is still being charged for them. I also listed out the terms of my new deal and the rep was able to change his plan to the same thing ($17.50 epp) and retained his credits and bonuses from his old plan. Didn't make him sign on for another 3 years. So now in about 1.5 yrs when his contract expires, he will have more leverage to negotiate for himself.
