The original HTC MyTouch and G1 had problems after a while on XDA because the processors where too old and slow. Haven't had any problems with the Sense and CM6 I've tried on my Nexus One.

Like I said, no problems with reception. Better than most of the phones I've had with T-Mobile and certainly from Samsung. A software update will fix most issues, I have JI4 on my Vibrant and it's working great on all accounts. HTC devices don't launch problem free. They all have their surrounding controversies like the Nexus One with the touchscreen & 3G reception (off of the top of my head).

*All* phone manufacturers are not immune to problems. No one can forget GPS issues on the Vibrant.

Samsung's complete abandonment of its 1st android phone the Samsung Behold II (and it unbranded twin; the i7500) and haulting 1.6 update did it for me.

pre-ordered mine yesterday, with the keyboard, its enough to make me finally leave blackberry, as long as my battery lasts all day i'll be good.

and enabling the tethering on the phone wont be hard, and t-mobile im sure wont do anything to the customers that figure it out.

The only phone i've ever had that was easy to tether on 3g was my bold, other than that (TM506, Equinox, etc) it was all necessary to do some sort of hack (and it's understandable considering they use phone-first web)

Samsung's problems have more to do with software(reception isn't bad, anyone that looks into the issue find that out) but nothing to do with this thread, anyway.. the G2 will have it's problems. Give it a week or two for them to surface before proclaiming HTC excellence.

G2 Sounds like a winner! May have to open a new line on T-Mobile for it via Costco. Its still not worth it to drop my $5.99 T-Zones plan.

I'm currently elibile for a phone upgrade from T-Mobile and would like to move to this. It's $199 for the pre-order through T-Mobile, but I also see that radio shack will be at $149. Is that only for new customers or will they be able to extend that price to upgrades as well?

I am in month 23 of 2 year contract. Called customer loyalty today (when prompted say 'customer loyalty'), said i read on blogs that people were getting the G2 for $149 with no rebate. The rep matched that price with no hassle. No upgrade fee either. Try you luck, and don't be afraid to hang up and try again

After hearing that the G2 was being released with Froyo, and the reports of WiFi calling came out, I was all set to get this when it dropped. However, since T-Mobile is crippling tethering, I will pass.

Since leaving the TP2 and it's glorious tethering capabilities behind for Android 2.1, I've been counting down the days for the release of 2.2 in vain. No tethering on a 2.2 device is unacceptable.

Is no tethering a deal breaker for you?

At first I thought it would be but then I got to thinking:

1) T-Mobile plans on making the feature available; probably for a small monthly fee
2) There will more than likely be a hack for this if you are brave enough to root your phone
3) I'm sure there will be a tethering app you can download through the Market
4) From my experience there are many things that T-Mobile doesn't "support," but doesn't necessarily prohibit nonetheless

Still I think it's a good idea to let T-Mobile know we don't like them messing with the features we love even if they plan on charging us for them. Carriers need to be told when they drop the ball on something.

The last Nokia event I attended here near Beverly Hills the President of Sales for the West Region did mention that T-Mobile never really charged extra for tethering in the past because they couldn't justify doing so on a 2G network. But as they grow/expand and speed up their expensive to build 3.75G network that could change.... Looks like that sometime might be soon.

I'm pretty sure there will be at least 3 work arounds either through rooting, an APN change or through an app from the Market.

But yeah I'm a little irritated too!

But just think: If we live in a HSPA + area we'll have the phone with the fastest widely available wireless broadband speeds that support simultaneous voice/data. Once we get WiFi tethering to work all the better.

I love my Nexus One, was one of the first to buy one back in January when it was first released. However, I do live in a HSPA+ Zone and would like the the faster speeds. Don't know what to do.

I can't wait for this phone, it looks like the coolest phone ever...
- the battery life is supposed to be much better than the Evo, Galaxy S, etc
- Benchmark tests show it is faster than the 1 ghz Hummingbird processor
- HTC keeps getting better with every release and I love HTC widgets (hopefully they will have a few htc widgets even though it is plain android)

so here is my question:

I am on the everything plus plan for $79.99 and I have a $500 credit line to finance a phone. Do I have to do that in store or can I preorder the phone?

If I have to buy it in store do you think that they will have them first thing in the morning on wednesday? Do you think they will sell out (due to shortages ala the Evo and HD2) ?
