I take it nobody ever got back on this question? I have the same problem. Wanted to replace my VX8600, so got a "new" refurb one off Ebay. It had T86VZV02SW and no Verizon preloaded Apps.
Found a VZV03 bin online and got it loaded in the new phone, copied all the file system structure contents (except NVM folder,) off my old VX8600 including all brew directory stuff.
Required some doing to get all configuration settings working to send and receive MM messages, but now everything seems to be working except for VZW app software.
So, I have no VCAST applications, and no MP3 player. It's like the apps aren't registered in the phone or something. Would really like to get my "new" VX8600 on line, any help would be appreciated.
I just registered on hofo and this is my first post. I recently experienced the exact same thing on my VX8300. I messed around with the file tabs in BitPim and screwed up my music player, and then poof, it was gone.
I got it back by first doing a refurbish, THEN reinstalling (flashing) the firmware I downloaded. The refurbish is a critical step to fixing your problem. There are detailed instructions on how to do this for the VX8300 here. I was able to get my VX8300 working perfectly in less than hour by following those directions (except for the stupid "Registering Applications" messages at power up, but that's a separate issue).
Here's a thread on updating the VX8600 to V03 firmware. The VX8600 dll and V03 firmware (the .bin file) are easy to find, but I'm not sure where you can get the .scr, .prl, and .eri files you'll need to do the refurbish.
