Chinese Sharp Android 8118u and 8128u

Some underpowered sharp android devices running their own UI that's reminiscent of webOS. Yay?

The thread about these is 7-8 lines below... http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...ne-posted-this... - indeed, misleadingly, the thread name doesn't contain the models and the OS.

Personally, I like the 8128U, and I think it's weird that Sharp should still be going for less than WVGA screens. How much do you think would the 8128U cost on Ebay? I am guessing there'll be exorbitant prices of $500+ at first.

Probably around there. They're pretty cool, but I wish we could have just one real clamshell android device...

Heh, Sharp felt these two phones were so important that they even put out a Japanese press release and rounded up the Japanese tech media for an announcement about it.

Quite frankly I'm amazed they used the user interface that they did. In their words (loosely translated), "the 点心 user interface development was entrusted to a local (Chinese) company because of the need to satisfy local needs and tastes". Yet, the UI skin on top of Android looks exactly like the iPhone UI. Coincidence? I think not.

Dangerous terrain Sharp is treading on here. If it wasn't for the fact it was China, I'm sure Apple would be preparing to knock on Sharp's door soon.

Oh well, I'm off to Japan in a month, don't have to worry about any of this nonsense anymore.

And that local company you mentioned was founded by the former CEO of the former Google CN...

I don't see iPhone UI, but that photo thing certainly reminded me of TimeScape UI from Xperia.

The ebooks app is reminiscent of iPhone UI, and I can see where the timescape UI could be in there, but I think it was probably the baby of webos, timescape, and iOS all combined.
