I went to Motorola and downloaded their most recent drivers here http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-E...arging-Drivers

Once installed, I uninstalled Motoconnect which is Motorola's utility. Then, I switched my DroidX USB connection back to PC Mode and everything is back to what it was before. The laptop recognizes the phone as a DroidX and will transfer files, sync, work as a modem, etc.

Now, if I could just find a tutorial for using Froyo. How do I switch between tasks (apps) without closing and re-opening them?

Once again, thanks for all the help.
My windows Vista keeps asking for a driver when the phone runs DLNA over WIFI. I e-mailed Motorola which said the question has been refered to their Advanced Team(or something like that.)... I have yet to get a reply from them.

I do have the USB driver install you referanced above.

    Anyone ???? Any ideas ????

Whenever I plug the phone into the laptop via usb cable, a notification shows up at top of phone screen labeled "USB Connection". By selecting that, I get 4 options............."PC Mode", "Windows Media Sync", USB Mass Storage", and "Charge Only". I'm using PC Mode now. You might try all four and see if Vista comes around for you.

Before update to 2.2, my phone played the installed mp3's just fine. Now, it will not play them at all, says that "the player does not support this type of audio file". I also installed some wma's and get the same message.

    Any ideas?

Known bug, hopefully we'll get an update eventually. A reboot should fix it though.

    Thanks for your response.

Actually, Verizon technical support doesn't know about the bug. The tech I talked to called the data lab and they said I have to install VCast Media Manager on my laptop and use it to transfer music files with Android version 2.2. They said that MM encodes the songs to work on my phone.

Makes no sense to me but I'm gong to try VCast MM anyway.

I've rebooted several times with no change.

    Thanks again.

Well, perhaps the phone doesn't support wma unless you sync.
    I only use normal mp3's.

If your mp3's are giving the "unsupported media" message, and yet a reboot fixes it, then that is the known bug I'm talking about. I'm not surprised VZW says they know nothing of that bug.

I have 2.2 and never had a problem with playing MP3.. Glad I've not had the the glitches others have.

any other issues going on lately with this update? My phones been running slow as hell. I have to reboot it a couple times a day now, i feel like im back on my blackberry storm. I noticed that with 2.2 the task killers no longer work automatically after pushing kill app. I need to go in one by one and kill them manually in the task killer which i feel might be slowing my phone down. And my battery dies super fast lately. I have 2 factory batteries from vzw which used to last a day or so uncharged with minimal use. Now i unplug it at 8am head to work, text maybe a dozen times, and by the end of the day its at 50% or less.

I notice the phone chugs hard towards the end of the day or in the morning. It feels like a pc from the late 90s thats never been cleaned out. I can click something and wait like 30 seconds for it to start up, then another 15 seconds for it to load, then i can watch the load circle stop and chug along. Texting, forget it. i can type out a message and put the phone down and watch it over a span of 2 minutes slowly type out the message letter by letter. thats how much of a delay its causing. I have a replacement at home with 2.1 on it i think im going to hook up and send this one back. Im so fed up with this 2.2 garbage im ready to sacrifice flash to go back to 2.1 to a STABLE unit.

I know i cant be the ONLY one with this issue. I try to show off things on my phone at night to people and i have to reboot several times to get it to work, then get past the frozen M logo screen. I havent had many random reboots since upgrading but ive had INTENTIONAL reboots out the wazoo now. Not to mention many of my apps forceclose now more than ever, since i guess handcent and many others havent updated to work well with 2.2 yet.

Check settings -> Battery manager -> usage statistics. It should tell you what apps are using up your battery. That said, usage statistics results in a force close for me.

Faced with those problems, I'd do a factory reset and see how the phone operates. If all is well, then start adding apps back a few at a time to see if you can identify the one(s) that cause problems.

You either have a defective phone or a bad app or combination of apps. You need to determine which it is and either get the phone replaced or eliminate the offending app.

FWIW, the biggest change I've noticed since the 2.2 upgrade is increased battery life. But I do not have many apps installed. Nor have I rooted my phone (yet.) I am experiencing problems with the WiFi hotspot (and also wonder if I'm the ONLY person experiencing this.) I have identified two apps that reliably force quit at the same point (Settings and Cardstar.) I have experienced one reboot since the 2.2 upgrade.

i went into usage settings, and it says that 31% of my battery usage is from voice calls. i made 2 calls today ALL day lol. and my batterys at 6 percent with maybe 1 song listened to on lunch and a dozen texts while at work, other then that its just emails popping up. I wonder if the vibrate really takes a toll on the battery life. because everything else under battery usage is very minimal. says display is 17% which its at the dimmest possible, and phone idle is 13% and everything else is under 4%

i have a new in box replacement droid x im about to hook up now, downloaded app monster to back everything up. gonna do a factory reset on the new phone first, then install 2.2, then reinstall everything. I have a feeling these phones needs a fresh install like my storm did, or linux on my laptop. alot of these devices dont like upgrades in the middle of things, they should be a fresh clean upgrade ive noticed

new replacement runs much smoother as of right now with 98% of the same apps reinstalled. seems to be much better since i activated it, set it up, did a factory reset, then installed 2.2 before putting ANYTHING on and its doing so much better then the original by just upgradeing in mid use of the phone. Sadly though i have noticed that my backup and app monster do not install the backed up apps on 2.2. If i used app monster in 2.1 it would of reinstalled everything before upgrading. oh well you live and learn
