    Droid activation problem

I'm having a problem getting a Droid activated on PP. I called CS to do an ESN change from my old phone, went through the OTA activation - *22890, rebooted, but after the phone was not activated - it came up with a message that said the phone needs to be activated. We went through this twice and I gave up and switched back to my old phone. I asked the CS rep if the ESN was clean/clear and he said yes. Am I missing a step - is there something else I need to do with the Droid to get it activated?

    Thanks!

David, how are you activating - by clicking on the android or by-passing? you have to by-pass the android as that is for Verizon. I activated a droid 1 two nights ago. when you turn on the phone, start in top left and tap each corner in clockwise motion. then go to calling keypad and enter in activation code. Then make your call.

Word of warning - mine was a used droid I bought on craigslist that still looked like it was back to factory settings. was on 2.1. anyway, it drained the data in no time. as in my 2 dollars were gone almost instantly and the next $10 were gone in just a couple of minutes. I suggest getting the initial $2 or whatever and then work on using wifi to have the 2.2 downloaded before adding more money. Otherwise it will keep draining your account. I think mine was because of downloading 2.2 OTA.

    Hope that helps.

Not to rant too much on the phone itself - I bought it on eBay. Auction stated phone and battery only. They weren't kidding - no microSD card, no battery cover, and cheap 1000mAh replacement battery. I guess I'm naive about buying phones on eBay.

Anyway, before activation I did a factory reset and let the phone upgrade to 2.2 using the software update option. When I turn on the phone it wants to be activated, I pushed "Activate" and it brought up a keypad. I typed in *22890 after give the CS the ESN number and I could hear the "programming" message/music. The phone displayed a progress bar and after a while the phone said that activation was successful and to wait 15 minutes. However, I restarted the phone at the request of CS. When the phone came back up it gave the "you must activate" message again. Maybe I shouldn't have restarted the phone? The second time we tried to activate I didn't restart but attempted to make a call out and got a message that I needed to call Verizon for help.

Ok, I got it. I dialed *22890 with the "regular" phone app and not with the initial activation. Thanks!
