nope. you'll most likely never get data to work on it. sidekicks go through a special proxy to access data services and in the US, tmobile is the only carrier to offer it. same thing with blackberries.

your best bet would be a android or windows mobile phone. iphone works well too, but no 3g on t-mobile/t-mobile mvno's is a killer for me.

I just found that out. Another call to WFM about my blackberry and now they said they dont offer data access for phones like blackberry, sidekick and similar smart phones that are not sold by WFM. Kind of a waste for me, their site said buy our phones or use any unlocked gms phone. It didnt say anything about some phones may not have data access.

The lady said they may offer data service for smart phones like the blackberry at a later time, but they had no timeframe and could not give me any further advice.

Guess my 2 week experiment in WFM has failed and Ill go back to real tombile service this weekend before I get my first bill.

    Its the phone...

We have 2 phones on the family plan, one is a at&t Tilt that is unlocked and I put android on it, data works fine with my wifes sim or my sim (no 3G obviously because its a at&t phone). We also have a t-mobile my-touch 3G that was not unlocked before we switched because the information on the family plan website and brochure say any t-mobile phone will work. It works, just no data with my wifes sim or my sim. Both phones have same APN . I dont think its the network or sim card or APN, data seems to be there if the phone can access it.

I have iPhone 4 on Walmart Family Mobile, and phone calls, data and SMS work perfectly (yes I had to trim the sim card). No MMS though. Can't figure out the MMS settings. Anyone figured this out yet? I've got the APN entered for "Cellular Data" but not sure about the MMS settings. Here are all the settings I've got:

    Cellular Data
    APN: wb.omwtoday.com
    Username: blank
    Password: blank

    MMS
APN: blank (I've tried using the same APN as cell data, no luck)
Username: blank (I expect this will stay blank)
Password: blank (I expect this will stay blank)
MMSC: blank (this should probably be an IP address or similar to at&t's http://mmsc.cingular.com...)
    MMS Proxy:

    Anyone with info please help.

Uninstall any mms fixes you downloaded thru cydia than do this.
    Cellular Data
    APN: internet2.voicestream.com
    Username:
    Password:

    MMS
    APN: wap.voicestream.com
    Username:
    Password:
    MMSC: 216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
    MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
    MMS Max Message Size: 1048576
    MMS UA Prof URL: http//www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf

Then go to Cydia and add this source:
    cydia.pushfix.info

Then in Cydia, go to Sections, then Tweaks scroll to T-Mobile US MMS Fix (its the 3rd one) and install. It says for iOS4 but it worked for me!

Here are the settings that work for data and mms on our iPhones 3Gs, 3G, and (data only) 2G:

    Cellular Data
    APN: web.omwtoday.com
    Username: blank
    Password: blank

    MMS
    APN: web.omwtoday.com
    Username: blank
    Password: blank
    MMSC: http://wirelessfour.mmsmvno.com/mms/wapenc
    MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
    MMS Max Message Size: blank
    MMS UA Prof URL: http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf

You also have to turn Data Roaming to ON and reboot the iPhone. Been working perfectly on our three phones for a week.

Update 12/24/2010: You should leave the Max Message size blank too (I originally had a value there.) Otherwise, this has worked perfectly for nearly two months.

As a note, after reading some other threads I installed opera mini when I was on wifi and it works fine on Edge. I can not use the blackberry browser but a 3rd party browser seems to do the job.

What settings are you using? my blackberry app world also works great on edge but nothing else does..not even opera mini.

This is confirmed! I've researched how to get picture SMS on my iPhone 3G 3.1.3 fw with Walmart Family Mobile. I did everything their customer support had asked to no avail. I could only send pix messages and never receive them. I always got the "The media content was not included due to a picture resolution or message size restriction" error which was BS. So to get this working, you need to get the cydia MMS fix install and load it. Then use the settings listed below and voilŕ you'll have picture text and you can use the edge network.

    Under general - network settings
    cellular apn - web.omwtoday.com
    mms apn - web.omwtoday.com
    mmsc - wirelessfour.mmsmvno.com/mms/wapenc
    proxy - 216.155.165.50:8080

The rest you can leave blank. Enjoy =]

Just added an iPhone 4 to the family and used the same settings as above. Still works on iOS 4.2.1 - the other phones have been working for 4 months. Hope this is helpful to someone.

I am also in the same boat ... anyone have any recommendations?

WFM gave me these settings but i'm having no luck ( odds are i'm doing it wrong though ) so if someone could help clarify exactly how to do it that would be appreciated ... thanks!

Data is still not working as of yet. I love the price but if they can't get data working 5 days after launch (and who knows how many days to pre-launch to get it right) I may be lookingr4 somewhere else.

And I don't need a lot of data, just a little bit. Come on WFM!
No, your idea seems good, but I can't not agree with you. There is other choice.

I have a G1, and this is what worked for me.

Create a new APN with the following:

    Name: Family Mobile
    APN: web.omwtoday.com
    Proxy: 216.155.165.050
    Port: 8080
    Username: Leave Blank <Not set>

MMS port: Leave Blank <Not set>
    MMC: 310
    MNC: 260
    Authentication type: None
APN Type: Leave Blank <Not set>

All that stuff about dialup numbers and validity periods were a waste. DNS is the server. I didn't need the Gateway IP.

I accessed mine by going to the wireless setting, and then the Access Point Names were under the Mobile Network Settings. Not sure where you would find it on your phone. Good Luck.

I was looking into switching to the Walmart Service, I have an unlocked iPhone 4... I was just wondering, what does your iPhone display in the top left for the carrier?
