A reviewer from the toronto star indicated issues with the touch screen getting "touched" while in the pocket. Even with the phone locked, the slightest move up on the slider unlocks it and can result in you inadvertently hitting things on the touch screen...apps dialing etc.. I wonder if the same might happen while taking it in or out of the holster.

Any such issues so far from anyone else's perspective?

i just got the torch on friday and so far i love this phone...im not big on touchscreen keyboards thats why i didnt get the i4, and i cant turn my back on a brand ive been with since before they had color screens (btw my bb 7280 still works perfect, great little tank of a backup phone)
the keyboard/screen lock is a little sketchy, but ive been using the holster from my bold 9000 till my case and screen protector comes in. the magnet in the case turns off the key lock when its removed AND when its put in the holster... havent had it do any random calling but i can see it happening... there has got to be a holster option in the phone somewhere but i havent found it yet, i know my bold 9000 had it as a feature in the ring profile settings. i would really like to turn off all holster recognition...its just annoying...maybe ill find one with no magnet in it.

i ordered the privacy screen protector because i dont like people looking over my shoulder at work when im playing games.(i need to find some good free ones and i really like the tilt motion flying game, although when i play that its fairly obvious lol)

Torch coming to Verizon in November alongside their new Droid Pro QWERTY-bar Android phone. This is going to get really complicated for me fast.

Don't want to burst your bubble but that's not what the article says. It doesn't say the Torch is coming to Verizon. It compares a new phone coming to Verizon to the Torch on AT&T.

Got to try the Torch today … was impressed by:
    The weight,
Rubber backing - better than the reviews states not so highly ridged as the pictures show,
screen resolution - I was impressed over capacitive touch- RIM gets it finally,
sliding mechanism for how minimal it is its solid: :O
Screen Rotation was FAST equal to my IP4 (but after multiple apps running I'm curious how this lasts)
Smart implementation of disabled screen-rotation when slider is opened; Nokia better learn this!!

I'll mention it here - as previously stated a thousand times - the keyboard is TOO mushy for died in the wool merciless BB users! It's WORSE than the entire CURVE lineup (9300 not withstanding as I haven't tried that).

This took too long to be released and lost me as a customer - and I'm glad. This has great elements in hardware that give a bow to the possible Storm 3, but without a more powerful OS - MIDP2.1 is getting LOOOOONG in the tooth and rimlets do the job but - there is no connection in the future for end users.

RIM - bring QNX to the masses and allow compatible BES/BIS setup. BB apps need to EVOLVE to more powerfully enable end users BEYOND just co-API/App integration.

My first impressions of the torch were very good as well... I just wish the screen was a bit better and processor a bit faster and I would really be able to justify forking out the extra cash to replace my 9700. I don't think it's big enough of an upgrade to justify for me I think I will wait till the next flagship berry.

Great reviews everyone. Currently own a Bold 9000, and at 2 years, it's getting long in the tooth. (God, remember when we used to have phones for 5+ years?) I'm seriously considering a HUP with Rogers and maybe renegotiating my contract ... but we'll see now. I think I'd like to sit with it for a bit at the store to try things out.

I love my berry and its keyboard. I've tried typing on the iPhone and it's just not the same as feeling the keys go down, plus having big stubby fingers doesn't help with accuracy either.

However, hearing the comments about the "shmooshy" keys doesn't encourage me to go running out. I like my 9000's keys. They've got some oomph behind them and feel durable.

Again, I'll have to try it out in the store to see what it's like - everyone has their own impressions, I guess.

Kreeny - the bold 9000 has softer keys, but they are slightly bigger.
The torch is by far the best phone I've ever picked up. Every1 I show it to wants one...mine has turned into the "demo" at work for those considering one lol

Does this kind of demo at work where colleagues only have BB's for corporate use and barely enough time to play with another personal device? Got back to the 9700 at work today (been with the 8310 & 8320 as work device) and I must say AppWorld 2.0 works beautifully for restoring data - it SAVED my *** today since Rogers 5.0.0.8xx is NOT compatible with certificates in apps installed prior on the 9700 and using firmware upgrade botched ALL apps. Yes I know how to retrieve the apps using device switch wizard; I just simply forgot to use that since I was doing a fw upgrade and BBDM6 screwed me. To cut it short … the 9700 is just RIM's crown jewel & saving grace in one full sweep.

If the Torch was released back in Sept '09 when the 9700 was well we'd have a whole different user mix on these boards. For now I'm STILL more content with my iPhone 4 for Exchange and online ticket systems. I'm VERY curious to try the torch for corporate tickets, and sharepoint sites and seeing IF I can get to file shares.

I'm STILL bugged that NO smartphone I've tried (sans Android as I'm not impressed with those just yet) can access a simple router via its own browser: 192.168.0.1; what gives?!!!

I've tried this before without success also, but not since I got the Torch. You got me curious, so I tried going to my U-verse router at 192.168.1.254 and got there with NO problem. Just like from my desktop. Got into my firewall settings after giving it my password and still no problem. I'm shocked.

i decided to test at what point the screen sliding up actually disables the keylock...well its got to be almost completely open, when you are able to see all of the keyboard then it turns the lock off, and not before...at least not on mine.

my only complaint remains with the holster magnetic recognition (and i cant get the damn app to work on my web based DVR, but the iphone can just log into the website and see it on safari..i did see opera in the browser listings in a script somewhere but i dont know where to download that from). the speed is good, multitasking works great.
i use by phones quite a bit at work because i usually do nothing or pick up a few papers and a pen and walk around to look like im busy, keep conversations in halls short and always look at your watch (shows yer on a tight schedule).its been working for over 2 years lol
mainly just playing around, and on the web... if anyone knows any cool games for this phone please give me some referrals.. NBA10 would be sweet!!!

No problems accessing routers with my 9700 or 9800.
