The initial release is slated for Q3 2003 based on the gsmarena.com review. But I assume that this date is for the general/initial release in Europe/Asia.

    does it have ACTIVE FLIP,

please please someone say it does, the only thing stopping my GD87 from being perfect is active flip.

isn't the active flip feature exclusive to Samsung and Motorola?

I honestly wouldn't know. The only thing I could recommend is to let someone else answer that question or check to see whether Panasonic has any info on their site about the active flip cabability.

Active Flip is available to any cell phone maker who wants to pay Motorola royalties for it's use, since the clamshell design and active-flip are patented by them.

2 things piss me off about the X70.

    1. No outside color LCD picture caller ID screen.

    2. The camera still takes pictures with a size fit for the postal service

imo the x70 doesn't look better than the GD88... but it's good about its added features.
i think the next japanese brand killer phone in this category will be the sharp GX20 for us.

I think x70's keypad looks pretty ugly. But the lights on the keypad are really nice and when the phone it's closed it looks cute. I'm looking forward for the succesor of x70!

I got to play with a prototype for a few minutes the other day. They have really improved the UI so things are more logically organized. The colours used in the UI are more vibrant and better use that wonderful display. Added features are screensaver and animated wallpaper. I did not see any new applications but then again, I only got it for about 5 minutes. Best part is that it adds 850MHz, which will allow roaming onto Cingular GSM in the USA as more sites are turned up. That would be the key feature to entice me to buy it, in addition to integrated Blue tooth. This mobile only had a test sim, so I could not test GPRS and I could not confirm Java.

I don't remember if it was you or someone else who said that the phone after x70 will have all those features and it's gonna be a real "strong" phone! Anyways I heard ppl say the X70 is already out in UK/Europe but they cannot confirm it. Can u tell me when it's gonna be out in North America and how much will it cost??? And does it have LOUD ringers??? Thanks a bunch!!!

Since it was not an active mobile, no real way to tell the volume of the ringer. I have no information on when it will be for sale in N. America or which carriers will carry it. It is not for sale in Europe yet.

according to the specs, but there is no way to tell based on what is displayed on the mobile display. But then again, if it is what is advertised then we should see better than 240x320. Again, I could not really run it through any paces. I hope to get one for an overnight trip sometime in the next couple of weeks.
