Phone options without data plan

So, Verizon is being pretty lame with all of this data plan greed.

I need a new phone for voice and text. That's it. I would like threaded texts, and a full keyboard, along with decent call quality.

What is my best option?

-buy an older generation verizon phone from ebay
-look for a current non-data-plan-required phone
-wait for verizon to lose this "feature" phone gimmick

Who knows how great those devices will be but it seems they're taking a step in the right direction for more text oriented non-smartphones.
