Rooting after 2.1 upgrade on Magic

Since I updated to the 2.1 update on my Magic, I have found the battery goes dead a lot faster, and have had a LOT of signal loss. To the point of havingno signal a lot more then I ever used to.

Would rooting my device help with this ? I have never rooted any of my phones, but am looking into it now.

Also I seemed to recall a thread where someone had a link to a "easy one touch root" but can not seem to find it.

If anyone can point me in the right direction or offer any help, that would be great

I found that the .19 radio was giving me the same problems you describe here. I switched back to the .18 radio and everything seems fine now. I have mine rooted but did run the .19 radio with the rooted stock rom. Now I have the .18 radio with the stock rom.

There is, and it is fairly straightforward ... but you do need to run a rooted version.

You could find all the info in the xda forums:

The rom I am currently running is here:

Universal Androot is what you are looking for. It is an application that allows for one touch rooting and unrooting (handy if you need to send the phone in for service) and it most definitely works on the Rogers 2.1 update... :-)

I downloaded the Androot app and ran it, It seems to work and said my Rogers Magic with the Rogers 2.1 update was rooted.

I would like to know if its possible to use some sort of Apps 2 Sd app to free up some internal memory.

My phone is unable to load any new apps because I am out of space on internal storage.

Can I use an app2sd program or do I have to use a custom ROM? I tried to search for an apps2sd program on the market without any luck.

    Anyone have some advice?

Mine said it was rooted too but when I ran titaium backup, It said that it doesn't have superuser access.

I tried rooting with both with and without Superuser installed.

If you use capychimp's rom, which is derived from the 2.1 official, and you partition your SD card with a swap, ext3 and fat, android will see the ext3 partition and move all of the apps to it. You could verify by checking your devices internal space usage.

I just ran into the same issue helping a friend, rooting a Rogers Magic (1.5 with the 911 update). I bet the issue is that you do not have Busybox, which Titanium needs for a bunch of the shell commands. What I would suggest is:

1st - install SuperUser - if it works you have root
2nd - check the SuperUser log and see what is happening when you run Titanium - I bet you will see a root request and a root grant
3rd - if you have root, try installing Busybox (you can find a version in the Market) and then try Titanium.

Usually once you have root you are running a custom ROM and all the custom ROMs I have seen include Busybox. I think that the developer of Titanium Backup has a flaw in his code. He does check the version of Busybox and suggests getting a newer one if required, but the app fails to launch if a version (even an old one) of Busybox is not available, which is strange since Titanium is capable of getting a newer version from the net.

    Thanks, I'll try this out
