seems like startacs have speakerphone, its listed under there features in the phone menu. i just cant seem to figure out what key combo it is. anyone who owns a startac know it?
next question, what firmware version had the 2 way texting? mines got 7058 (the one that supports OTA) and were can i get an updated copy?
i got 2 startac based phones now, first one is a timeport p8767 activated on pageplus
the newest one i got is a st7868w i got for 4 bucks on ebay, altho the case has a crack were the cover snaps onto, but fully operational. the crack is making the phone hard to use cause it allows the keypad/motherboard to be pushed back when pressing a key. i might just go ahead and stick the motherboard in a microtac 650e to make a cool frankenphone .
The StarTAC's speakerphone was an add-on device that plugged into the charging port. Once plugged-in, you could turn it on and off from the keypad. I had the speakerphone accessory, but the sound quality wasn't as good as modern handsets with built-in speakers. It also put additional strain on the charging port, which I found was a weak spot in the phone's design. The StarTAC's charging port tended to come unsoldered with heavy usage.
cool, now i know. so, who here has or know were i can get a copy of the 7654 firmware? i got the broken tac taken apart and it seems ok, interesting backlight on it tho, it dosen't use led but instead some flouresent pad, kinda neat, but i dont like blueish keypads.
nope, couldn't find the firmware, i had a startac with the newer firmware, but unfortunetly, it bit the dust.. i still have the ROM chip with the firmware for it, if i ever find another startac with 7058 firmware, i might try to solder on the newer ROM.. i still use 2 startac based phones for everyday use, but im not gona risk soldering on there mainboards...
