Thumbs up HTC Desire (Telus), unlocked, & working on Fido

Hi all. Just wanted to share a smooth experience I had:
    1. Bought the phone (no contract) from Black's Photography
    2. Unlocked it (within hours) with a code purchased from cellunlock.net. Some other unlockers said the IMEI was too new and I'd have to wait for a code.
    3. Within minutes of unlock, the phone was and is working well on Fido with voice/data.

    Cheers.

And an update... have flashed the phone with stock Froyo (2.2) and a few mods. Details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997

    Works.

    Hey,

Thinking about doing the same thing as you. Just wondering if you are running 3G on the phone? And is it working well or is it in and out between 3G and EDGE?

    Thanks!

3G/HSPA works, though the network has major suckage most of the time. a couple of times over the last month, the phone has dropped to EDGE while i've been in my office, or i've lost signal completely (i watched it happen). this never seemed to happen with my other phones. but i'm guessing it's the network.
    I BRICKED MY GALAXY S2.

Yup, the "3G" indicator is always there, only replaced with "H" (HSPA) when it's bursting data in/out. I don't think I've seen an "E" yet.

It's a Very Good phone. Quite happy. Only complaint is battery life. I've installed power-saving mods but I still can't get it to last a "typical" 8am-2am day like my iPhone. But I'll solve that with a dock at the office and one at home, if I have to.

you need to give your battery a couple of cycles before you'll get max charge time.

don't know what mods you have, but turning off as much background sync stuff as you don't need will help, and do NOT use a task killer. with Froyo i can go a typical day (YMMV, natch -- if you need BT and GPS on all the time, you're going to feel it) from 8:30am to 2am on a single charge. on Eclair i was only getting to about 10:30pm.

make sure you have all the sync's off, static background, lower brightness, GPS/wifi/bluetooth only on when you need it.
