I ported from Telus pre-paid and all Mobilicity asked me for was the account number. You can get this by calling or signing on to the Telus web interface.

You need proof of your active Telus account (i.e., most recent bill with account number) when you go into your Mobi location. They'll order the port which effectively nukes your existing Telus account. If you were still under contract, Telus will bill you the ECF as stated when you signed up. If you weren't, you owe them nothing.
How about if I changed my number on my Telus account, would Moblicity be able to retrieve my old number without cancelling my Telus account?

Interesting. The two times that I have called about questions concerning my F&F account, they need to get a supervisor involved. Makes me wonder if they will still have access to these after the promo is done.

It shouldn't matter if they have access to these plan codes after the promotion expiry. This is a matter of porting process stupidity by Mobilicity (and Wind) where they do all porting by activating a new line. If both Mobilicity and Wind followed industry standard practices and allowed customers to port a number into an already existing line and use the same sim card, none of this would even be an issue as the Mobilicity system would see the ported-in number as being the same line that already has the F&F plan.

Exactly. However, Mobi _IS NOT_ doing this and I have been told by a CSR Manager (and Store Manager) that once November 8th hits, none of these F+F plans will be able to be re-opened and that no changes will be able to take place (including porting in a number). Essentially, if you ever leave the plan _YOU WILL NOT_ be able to get it back.

Pisses me off because I have to eat a $100 ECF for less than 30-days remaining on a contract with a Robellus Company.

Can somebody confirm this? I was planning on testing Mobi thoroughly for 3 months before porting my number over.

EDIT: Just called a half dozen stores downtown. They all confirm that you must port your number by November 7th, otherwise you can't get your ported number on a F&F plan.

I, and others, have stated this already. Glad you were able to confirm. I was told this by a CS Manager as well on a call back because I was given misleading information with no offer of a resolve for my troubles.

Apparently I'm hearing WIND may have some deals in the first week of November... The $100 activation credit dies on the 31st so it might be best to just activate your phone this weekend on a new number, and then see what offers come up - I've been reading rumours/suggestions that WIND may have something to match the F+F deal Mobi has going on right now. If something better comes up, return your phone with minimum usage. If nothing does, get another SIM and port your number by the 7th.

    Nothing like hedging bets.

For future reference and in case it's ever needed, the plan code for the Friends & Famiily $35 plan is SPMF35C65.

Just trying to provide the best information I've read in HoFo (and elsewhere) to help people make smart decisions.

I know there are no contracts but the idea is to get what's best for you while you can. If WIND has a better offering after November 1st, you still have the 7-days to return you handset providing you haven't gone past Mobi's allowable time (which is posted in store).

Just check the WIND forum here on HoFo. There's a thread discussing likely upcoming deals (and handsets). Again, everything is just speculation until it goes live but there are some people on the thread in there who, if I'm not mistaken, work for WIND and have some inside information.

Just called support and they said I have to port before 7th. I hope they do not charge for the SIM .
