I read something on BGR that states Bell activly testing LTE in a couple of markets.
I would assume that includes Telus also because it is a shared network correct?
With Verizon set to launch their LTE network early 2011, does that mean we are not too far behind?
Canada will likely wait for the 700mhz spectrum to come available (TV has to stop using it effective Aug 31, 2011). This seems like it will be the North American standard as this is the spectrum that Verizon and ATT are going to be using.

I think that is one of the complications (re: 700 MHz) that spectrum is coming free and will be used by some (at least) in the US for LTE. But Bell, Telus, Rogers all hold unused AWS spectrum that could be used for this. Question is, what devices will be produced for what bands that might drive the choices in a particular direction?

The tower at my parents house (CTV) is still broadcasting on Analog. Checked this while setting up their new LED last weekend. Picture came in perfect, but they live 10 minutes away and have LoS.

Odd that they are still broadcasting. You sure your TV was not picking up the new broadcast digital signal? If you are that close it might come in without any special antenna equipment. You can still use the old analog "bunny ears" antenna to get broadcast digital signals if you are close enough.
But the 700Mhz has not been auctioned off yet so it's not likely anyone is going to complain to the CRTC that the local TV station is using their spectrum yet. Pretty sure that the CRTC doesn't care if someone is broadcasting unless a complaint is made. There could also have been some exception made for your local station to do their upgrades. Rural and remote region broadcasters I think were exempt from the first deadlines. Like the CBC station in the middle of nowhere in the NWT can keep broadcasting to their 15 viewers on analog for example.

We think everyone should be able to afford a wireless phone. That's why we were the first wireless company in North America to offer pay-by-the-second airtime, and why we don't charge an activation fee. NO scary contract to sign. Immediate national coverage. And a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Yes, it's finally time to get a wireless phone.
