    Post your Data Speed Here...

    Location: Highway 7 and Jane..

    First Run through tethering:

    Second Run:

Download speed is slow comparing to Wind. I get between 3.2-4.5 in the same area on wind. But Upload speed is great better than home DSL service.
With this download speed I can not play streaming videos; same videos play flawlessly on my wind phone.......

Looks like this is the best I can do for bb9700 near yonge and bloor with 5 bar signal. I tried numerous times at different time, I've never reached above 1Mb/s.

I guess if you plan to do light browsing when home internet is out (damn Rogers), it's good enough for emergency or meeting deadline.

BlackBerries do data compression, you can't really use them to test network speeds.
The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband. The reason Wind and Mobilicity users like pentaband phones is because the reverse is true. We're not the only ones who like pentaband phones though, so please stop referring to phones that work on Wind and Mobilicity as pentaband. It causes unnecessary cofusion.

Likely a bug, I have that happen every now and then, like if whatever is being downloaded gets cached.

data speed of Mobilicity is not enough to run slingplayer, its so choppy and its unwatchable.
But good enough to watch flash capable websites.

These are the results on my phone since I've switched to Mobilicity ...
    My observations:
Average is around 2 Mbps for download and 1 Mbps for upload ...
Download never reaches 3 Mbps ... as soon as it gets close to 3 it immediately drops ... I think Mobilicity is limiting speed to >3
Upload is choppy and not as smooth as download ...

I called CS yesterday and he told me that I have bis active on my F&F $35 plan thats the reason I am not getting more than 1Mb on my HTC Maple from Wind. He removed bis to see if it makes any difference. He said we should be able to get between 3-3.5Mb data speed.
But I got the same results as I was getting before which is between 1-1.3Mb....... I think Mobilicity does not allow more than 1-1.5Mbs...

    I may be wrong but...

BIS simply allows you to access the blackberry APN. When you tether your blackberry it should not go through the blackberry APN. It should go through the regular internet APN.

To check, simply go into desktop manager and see what APN is set in your IP Modem section.

I am 99.9999% sure removing BIS will do absolutely nothing for your speeds. Were you talking to tech support or regular CS?

FYI, if I tether on my HTC Snap I get around 2Mbps down and 700Kbps up.

Data compression is only on device. Once tethered it does not compress data since it should go through the internet APN. I can tether my BB on Rogers (I don't have a Mobi one) and get 2 or 3Mbps down. Though usually it is around 1.5Mbps

However, IF Mobi has set up tethering in desktop manager to go through the blackberrry APN, just change it to the internet APN and it will be fixed.

I talk to tech support. What you are saying; exactly thats what I told Tech Support guy but he still insisted to check if removing BIS will make any difference. Yes in connection manager I got only wap.davewireless.net settings to access internet..... And I think on HTC BIS configuration will not work at all anyways...

What program or apps are you guys using for tethering? I still can't get over 1mb/s download.

I use blackberry desktop and click on connect mobile internet. should i use someting else?
Mobilicity doesn't have a profile in bb, here are the settings I entered
    user: dave
    password: password
    apn: wap.davewireless.com

anything else I need to change?? i'm near yonge and bloor in downtown. i really don't think tower distance or reception is an issue. i always get 5 bars in my apartment.
