    HTC Desire Z (Coming to Bell) - Will it work on Rogers

    http://mobilesyrup.com/2010/10/02/ht...late-november/

    Its coming to Bell in late November (approx)

    My guess that if this gets unlocked it should work on Rogers since Rogers and Bell share the same 3G band.

    Would anyone consider getting this?

    Your link is speculation. There's a question mark.

    Here's the confirmation.

    Thanks! So it should work on Rogers?
    The reason I ask is the HTC site lists the Desire Z with different bands for the 3G frequency.

    Network4

    Europe:

    * HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
    * GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

    Asia Pacific:

    * HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
    * GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

    Typically any GSM phone released by Telus/Bell/Rogers will work on each network due to the fact that they all use the same 3g bands. There is no reason for Bell to release a 3g phone that wouldnt work on their network.

    Lol Rogers hasn't even gotten the Galaxy S yet and Bell is already planning on being the only Canadian carrier to get the Desire Z.

    Wow, damn, good job Bell.

    I really want the new version of SenseUI, it mimics the best features of Nokia's Ovi, allowing you to backup most important stuff so if you lose your phone or reset you lose nothing. Remote wiping is pretty amazing too.

    Currently the Desire Z and Desire HD were only announced to be hitting European markets, so they are only listed with European 3G frequencies, but if the Desire Z is coming to North America then it will have North American 3G frequencies. But since it hasn't been announced yet the site hasn't been updated to show North American frequencies. Wait until they announce it, then they will update the site, not earlier.

    All great news. I may HUP to an iphone4...sell it and buy the desire z and use it on Rogers. So far with all the issues I am seeing with the Captivate its making me a little concerned.

    Time will tell...

    And Rogers struggles to just release the Captivate. LMAO. What a bunch of losers. I can always pray that they'll get the HD, but that would obviously be a mean joke to tell someone.

    my contract with Rogers ended a few weeks ago, I'm thinking of doing something similar, but without having to change the services of my plan. Roger's Blackberry / iPHONE plans are crazy pricey!

    What I'm wondering is what about when you don't get 3G? When you're on Edge / GPRS? Would an unlocked bell HTC Desire z (running on the Rogers Network) still have connectivity to 2G Networks?

    I guess we'll know more, once the launch happens next month and the contents of the device is made public?

    I believe the device would still have connectivity to the 2G networks as the operate on the same frequency. Bell and Telus don't have a 2G network so there is nothing to revert too.

    The Telus HTC Desire has access to GSM/2G for voice but NOT for data. And 2G data can not be unlocked or otherwise enabled. I'm not sure if Bell does something similar.

    Fat chance, as each day goes by I believe the HTC/Rogers strained relationship more and more.

    That's not accurate. A custom ROM has shown it to be possible to get the Desire use 2G.

    And it's only Rogers with that issue. If you unlock the TELUS Desire and use it on AT&T EDGE will show up no problem.

    Most phones, if not all come with quadband GSM, therefore the Z will work with Rogers' GSM network, and WILL have 2G GPRS/EDGE. And if HTC is going to release on Bell, then you can bet there will be 850/1900 HSPA. With both these specs, it will definitely work on Rogers network.

    How about a link to this ROM? I haven't heard of it before. Is the ROM actually out in the wild and stable? Because if it isn't then there is no discussion.

    You need to read my post again. I'm already said that the Desire can use 2G, but 2G data is purposely locked out by Telus.

    This news is promising as I'm interested to see what North America gets in terms of the Desire family. Ideally I would like to upgrade to the Desire HD but not holding out on Rogers carrying this anytime soon...
