    I don't get that part. How can 2G data be blocked on Telus? They don't even have the network for 2G data?

    I'm afraid of something like this happening. It would be in bell's interest to do a separate control lock on the "unnecessary" radios, to discourage using the device on competitor's network, but certainly not in the interest of HTC!

    again, at this point it's all speculation

    CM6 on the Desire allows 2G on the Rogers network.

    Very interested in this phone and would like to switch to Rogers from Telus as Rogers has a stronger signal at my residence. I haven't been able to get Rogers to come even close to the corporate plan I have with Telus .........yet. If this phone is as good as I think it will be, I will have to call rogers corporate and try again.

    It only locks out Canadian 2G data. I have used the Telus Desire on ATT Edge in the US. And yes, Data works.

    I highly doubt Rogers will be the one to release the Desire HD. I am hoping Bell will be the one to get it too. Atleast then, we can use it on Rogers after unlock.

    I wish HTC would sell their phones unlocked, unsubsidized straight to the consumer. I'm getting sick and tired of phones being released on one carrier and not the other.

    +1 Word. Nokia tired it in the US and it failed. Although in Canada it could work since the Big 3 use the same bands and all the new GSM/HSPA entrants all have the same bands.

    Unfortunately we aren't a big enough market and like in the US our population is drunk on hardware subsidies. There are some signs people are smartening up though, seeing how hard retailers have made it to purchase a Galaxy S Vibrant and HTC Desire. I hope the manufacturers are taking note and are considering standalone store options.

    Was going to get the captivate but the Desire Z looks awesome, anyone know how much it will be without contract and any idea what's needed to unlock it for rogers?

    Quick noob question. So when it works in Rogers means it will work on Fido 2G as well? o.O

    It should work on Fido 3G and 2G. Fido's network is Roger's network anyway.
    Cell phone history:
    Motorola DPC 550 -> Ericsson DF388 -> Sanyo SCP-4000 -> Samsung SCH-N150 -> Samsung SCH-T300 -> LG TM520 -> LG VX-4600 -> BlackBerry 6750 -> BlackBerry 7250 -> Samsung SGH-807 -> T-Mobile Dash -> Motorola RAZR -> BlackBerry Bold 9000 -> BlackBerry Torch 9800 -> Samsung Galaxy S Captivate -> Samsung Nexus S -> Samsung Galaxy S III LTE

    This is interesting. So Bell's Desire Z will only work as a 3G device under Bell's network while it will work as both 2G and 3G device under Rogers/FIDO?

    I'm also debating on this move. I can either stay with Bell or move over to FIDO/Rogers...
