Bell's "new" network is 3G (HSDPA) only (no GSM) so of course it is only 3G on Bell. The phone has both HSDPA and GSM radios in it so on Rogers (and Fido since it is a flanker brand on the same network) you get both. There is the possibility that Bell with disable the GSM radios via firmware, but that is almost always fixable via XDA. If you are planning on moving it to Rogers it is probably best to make sure that an unlock is available before you buy, since Bell certainly is not going to unlock it for you.

just wait, just like what i did with the vibrant. The unlock will eventually come. Perhaps even free.
I just picked up the Desire Z and already have it unlocked. I plan on using it on the Rogers network. Just wondering if someone can help me with the settings needed to get my data plan working and all. I can already make phone calls but the data isn't active yet. Thanks in advance.

WOW! I must be blind! I can't figure out how to input the APN settings into the phone to use Rogers data.
I nagivated Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > and I'm stuck here. I click Access Point Names but I see nothing to actually click on so I can enter any values.
NVM, just found out. http://android.modaco.com/content/de...ettings-froyo/
not the exact settings but follow the steps to enter the right ones
Ok, I setup the APN settings to work on the Rogers network. The only thing now is I see "E" and occasionally "G". So E for Edge and G for 3G I'm guessing. How do I get it to stay in 3G mode?
EDIT: OK I tried using some new APN settings. Hmmm, still see the "E" though.
I used these ones.
Name: Rogers
APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
proxy: none
port: none
un: none
pw: none
server: none
mmsc: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com/

mms port: 80
mms protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 302
MNC: 720

EDIT:
Speedtest says 0.16MB/s download and 0.07Mb/s upload. Hah, that don't feel like 3G!

^I'm pretty sure G is GPRS. On other Android phones i've used I would see 3G or H for 3G connection. Is there somewhere on the phone where you can check which networks are available/connected?
hrm do keep us posted techwarrior. curious, where did you get your desire z?
Try going into Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks > Network Mode = GSM/HSPA Auto. Change it to HSPA only and see what data you get. If nothing, then you need to find a solution.

Anything I say is my own opinion based on speculation. It does not represent the views of my employer.
How likely is this to pup up at places like Pacific Mall anytime soon?
Version of HTC Desire that will work on Rogers
If Desire Data Off, will Voice work on Bell/Tellus?
