    What 3G?

On the Rogers/Fido network will you get the 3g speeds (7 Mbps) or the HSPA+ speeds (14 Mbps)?

I'm ready to jump off the iPhone boat.

Should work on HSPA+ speed. http://phonecompatibility.net also says the same thing.

    Support for Band I?

Does anyone know if the NAM version of the Desire Z also supports Band I UMTS (i.e., 2100) for international compatibility?

I am running the Desire Z on Rogers. Today I clocked 7.87 down / 2.38 up!! Incredible although it really varies with location and time of day (been as low as 2.77/0.81).

Has anyone tried the navigation app by google on the Desire Z? I'm using it right now and trying to get a GPS lock but it's been 5 minutes and nothing. I'm on the Rogers network and inside a building. Would that matter?

EDIT: Ok, I went outside to try the GPS and it locks on in under 7 seconds. I guess there's too much interference in the building. Makes sense. My Garmin GPS never did. No issues.

Looks like the Desire HD is coming to Canada... likely to Telus. Another option for those who want a larger screen and don't care about the physical keyboard... and yes before anyone asks it will work on Rogers (both GSM and HSPA+).

Exciting. I'm not sure I can live with the battery though. If its rootable and I can throw cyanogen on it I very well may pick it up and sell my N1

For those who care there's a new kernel on the XDA forums for desire Z that works with Visionary temp root to overclock the DZ. Got mine running at 1.4 Ghz.

Fantastic device. Coming from a BlackBerry it took awhile to switch over to touch screen and even the hardware keyboard (due to spacing) but everything is else is perfect! No lag whatsoever and having native Froyo, I won't need to root for the time being. HTCSense.com features are also an added bonus considering no monthly/yearly subscription is required...

Battery life is great compared to Samsung's Galaxy S phones.

    Cool

    Hi Morbid,

What blackberry did you switch from? I'm considering switching from my 9700.

    I'm concerned about:

    1) battery life
    2) signal reception
    3) weight
    4) bigger keyboard

With regards to these four points, what is your opinion vs your previous Blackberry?

    Your opinions are appreciated.

I'm not Morbid but here's my take on playing with my friends HTC Desire Z compared to my experience with Blackberries.

    1) BBs win hands down it ain't even close.
    2) Depends from area to area
    3) The Desire Z has heft to it, think iPhone 4 heft.
    4) The Bold 9000/9700 keyboard is still in a class of its own. But this come pretty close.

Well I wanted the Z before playing with one today. Hate the keyboard to spread across. Other than that it's a nice device. But since I don't like the keyboard my search for an Android with keyboard continues :-(

I don't see as much need for a keyboard, not with SWYPE. And the SWYPE on my Captivate is far superior to the beta on my Magic. The 4"screen makes SWYPE better too!
