Played with one at Futureshop. I actually really liked the keyboard, even (or perhaps especially) the industrial strength snap action of the slider mechanism. And the keyboard itself, spacing included, felt great. Much better than the Milestone.
For those that have this phone; how is the screen (compared to galaxyS and iphone)? Is it the same as the Desire? From various reviews I've read, they say it is almost unusable in sunlight; is this true?
Anyone using a matte screen protector?
hey guys, so i got the desire z. so far i'm not really missing the keyboard of my bb 9700 too bad. reception seems about the same too.
one thing that seems poorer is the audio quality during calls of my desire z and the speaker phone. did anyone notice a difference compared to their bb? its not like unusable but not as clear as my 9700 it seems.
even when i put the volume on max, its quite low compared to my old bb 9700 during a call.
So my girlfriend is uber interested in getting this phone.
I'm pretty sure that buying it outright through bell is the best way to go, though I have a few questions:
- After unlocking it, where would OS updates come from? Bell or from HTC?
- And just making sure I understand, the Desire Z from Bell has 850 and 1900Mz 3G bands?
Unlocking will not change the os, you just insert your sim card, boot up and enter your unlock code once, then you will have an unlocked phone. It will boot up into the Bell os installed on the phone. Your phone is programmed to check for updates every week from HTC. You can also check the HTC website for update info. The update will be the Bell o/s.
The phone is on the 850/1900 mz 3G bands. I am using with Rogers and it works like a charm. Will also work on Telus (share network w/ Bell).
You should still be able to get any updates you need from the HTC intended for the Bell Desire Z like David said.
I'm liking the phone so far too. Coming from the 9700 BB the only thing I missed is the call quality so far and the keyboard, I find the Desire Z a little worse in both departments but everything else is better. It has been 3 days since I've had it.
Your GF might find it a little heavy.
What are you Rogers guys using for your APN settings for some reason i only get wifi I have it set to GSM/Wcdma auto.....
Has anyone checked to see if EDGE is blocked on this like the Desire on Telus? I would Assume that is why the HD hasn't come out yet, they are probably working on that block.
AA_date, try page 3 of this thread, it worked for me.
thanks again for the help with random questions!
my girlfriend was able to pick up Bell's HTC Desire Z from a Source store on Seymour (DTvan) for $499 + hst.
unlocked it via mobileincanada.com for $20 flat!
Cost so much less than what all online retailers were asking for a Desire Z unlocked.
Entered all the APN info, and is now off and flying with HSDPA speeds!!
Great phone! Really amazing quality from the 5mp camera! Android 2.2 is a significant upgrade from 2.1 - especially on a crappy Magic! Flash support = Awesome! All in all - a great phone.
The only question I've got is: when receiving text messages, the time stamp on the received text messages does not match the time on the phone. eg. I sent her a text at 7:36pm PST, but the phone shows the text as being received at 1:12pm?? Anyone have a similar problem or know how to fix it?
Version of HTC Desire that will work on Rogers
If Desire Data Off, will Voice work on Bell/Tellus?
