I agree, i've been with my SGS 2 for over 2 months now and i do miss the N8. Not just for the camera but also for all the options and tweaking and personalization you can do to it. I was also thinking about getting the 808, but i think it's just too big and the design is just kind of ugly.. :- /

Just a little update on my old N8 that got wet in a hottub and died on me, i thought it would never work again (it would just keep rebooting from the Nokia screen to the 5 dots loading and keep looping), i took it apart, put it back together - and voiilaaa it works perfectly fine again.. if i had just thought of that before getting the Galaxy s2.
The N8/N9 combo is holding me over quite well for now. I'd love a 808 but I can hold off until prices dip below $500.
I got the Google Galaxy Nexus GSM 2 weeks ago and it's a mixed blessing. The first week all I had to do was to find battery savers because out of the box it consumes battery like nothing else I have ever used. As a phone it is not as good as my N8, you need far too many apps to get it where you want it. No speed dial, can't download larger maps to use offline, for instance I can download Portland but not Oregon and it's a bit cumbersome if you would enter an area with no signal. As a mini computer it is great but as a phone I am not very impressed. I am running Jelly Bean on it. It works fine so far on my 10 dollar plan but I don't go overboard with web usage. I'll bring both phones when I go on vacation because I much prefer the camera and the camera interface plus the Nokia maps. Imagine that once you download some apps you have to download another app to find out which one of the apps you downloaded are spamming you with credit card offers etc. I can stand an app that shows some stuff in a banner at the bottom but an app that sends you notices with spam crap is too much and should not be part of the Google Play..
I gotta say I still like my N8! It might be a shred slower on the internet that the newest phone, but I see that all cell phone access to the internet is half as*ed; slow, sloppy, and restricted to the retarded cell network. The failure of net neutrality on the cell network will keep that sector dumbed down. Though I do know many of you all do use the cell internet a lot.
Anyway, I'd get a new phone if they had a good camera. I use this camera a lot! Having a phone with a lens that focuses is amazing. This thing is better than some "real" cameras. I basically carry a mini camera with a phone inside.
I like the battery frugal Symbian.
I like the offline maps. I am usually in the NYC subway or traveling way out, off the cell grid.
I do wish there were more apps for adrift Symbian.
Speaking of its awesome camera you can take apart a cheap laser pointer, remove the lens and jury rig it to your phone and capture incredible minute things like dust and sugar granules. I saw this tip on reddit and tried it man does it kick butt.
Same exact way i feel, i said this to a friend whom i used to always fight about what's better Nokia or Android - now i understand why "better/longer battery life" is such a selling point when new phones come out. Battery is pretty much mentioned in every ad/commercial for iphones/androids.. i can't stand the battery life in my SGS2. As soon as i leave for work in the morning - about two hours later i have to plug it in so it doesn't die on me by noon. Any one of my Nokia's used to be able to last a whole work day with pretty heavy usage. I couldn't think of a day when any of my Nokia's died on me during a regular day at work, which happens at least once a week now if i'm not in the car for a few hours.
I flashed mine with the aokp jelly bean too but i'm about to flash it with the jedi mind trick right now after reading posts about it.. my aokp is kinda unstable, the home screen flashes randomly and the screen rotation is messed up.
After using Nokia's for the last few years, i just can't stand Google maps and the really really bad reception it gets, i could be driving down one block where it has me pinned on the exact spot - then all of a sudden it jumps 3 blocks down or into a park or cemetery. Nokia maps are amazing.
I'm waiting for some decent cfw's with the new Belle Refresh, i've always used the delight Belle on my N8 so waiting to see if he's gonna come out with a new version with the Refresh and i might just start using my N8 again soon.
Just a little sidenote on while i was taking the N8 apart, i followed the ifixit guide, and it's so easy to take the N8 apart but the hardest thing to me was taking the top cover off - it wouldn't slide off easily it was so tight and snug i couldn't stick anything in between the screen and the cover, so after using some small screwdrivers and thin metal pieces i really messed up the entire top now it just looks really crappy from the front, and the only housings sold for the phone i could find are aftermarket and the reviews say they're really bad.. :- /
The N9 camera is quick but it pales in comparison to the quality of the N8 camera. I almost never bring the N9 with me outside of work. It is an awesome little computer and a great utility to have if you do Linux development. The N8 is a better overall phone for everything else. I'm looking forward to picking up a 808 and not having to use a SIM adapter any more.![]()
yea i agree that the N9 camera sucks, except in very bright lighting conditions. but the N8 overall feels slow. i feel like i'm waiting for it to do things forever vs. the N9. for my needs (not including the camera), the N9 is better overall as a phone.
anyhow, i couldn't take not having a good camera phone, so i got my 808 lol now it feels on par with the N9 in terms of speed. but i keep trying to swipe stuff now lol some of the applications have no exit button, so you have to use the task manager to kill it.
and i don't have to use a SIM adapter lol
Btw, I gave my son a X2-01 bought unlocked at Amazon in September of last year, it stopped working a couple of weeks ago so I gave him my N86. Then I was checking my Amazon orders looking for a specific thing from last year and I saw the phone and I thought I would check the warranty. Lo and behold it was still under warranty, so I setup a warranty repair online, printed a prepaid 2nd day UPS shipping that Nokia emailed me and sent it to Forth Worth on Friday. It arrived yesterday, today I got a shipping notice in an email from Nokia that they are shipping what I assume is a refurbished one but it was still very impressive. I know how bad Samsung support is although they have a much larger footprint in the US so I bought a square trade warranty also knowing that if I would return contact Google although I bought the phone directly from them they would just tell me to contact Samsung. Hopefully the 808 will come down around christmas and then I will get it.
