I'm on my 3rd Jest phone & 5th battery (two different brands) & 4th charger (OEM, Verizon brand and 2 other's), all within one month. Same trouble remains...
Sadly I discover these phones will NOT take a charge after being fully discharged.
Symptoms: The charged phone sits (turned on) until fully discharged. When charger is connected, the phone behaves like the battery is not installed. The battery indicator immediately shows 100% and does not blink (sweep) to indicate charging. You can leave the phone connected to a charger for an hour or days and the result is the same. Once the charger is disconnnected, the phone shuts down.
Interestingly, if you catch the phone before the battery is fully discharged and put a charger on it, the battery indicator will blink/sweep and the battery will properly take a charge. Another way to heal the issue is to use an external charger on the battery to boost it above 3.3 volts. Once reinstalled in the phone, a battery with perhaps 10% remaining capacity or more will charge just fine.
PS: I don't have 5 bad batteries. Once charged, these batteries will all hold for 3-5 days in standby and allow couple days of texting.
Hypothesis:
I think the Jest firmware is flawed. Once the battery reaches a voltage below 3.2VDC, I discovered the phone does not detect the presence of the battery and therefore it does nto try to recharge it. Unfortunately, the discharging phone shuts down at a voltage slightly lower than it's minimum charging pickup detection value.
Different brand batteries and chargers do not help. Obviously I didn't get three phones that have an identical trouble, so I blame the design.
Verizon store tech's are amazed and baffled. They have thrown in the towel.
After reviewing all reviews on Verizon website, it seems to suggest a small number of folks have seen this identical issue. However I can't find this mentioned anywhere on Howard forum.
The Pantech Jest I got for my father had this problem as well. He was using an older charger from an LG phone that still had the same micro-USB head. The phone would turn on but not charge as described. But when I used the charger that came with the phone (the one that is a seperate USB cable and USB charger) and the phone charged correctly. Something interesting to note is that the LG charger outputs 0.7 amps but the Pantech charger only outputs 0.3 amps.
Okay, I had the same problem. I had my Jest plugged into the computer, and my mom knocked it on the floor. It's working again! So, if you give it a good thrashing, it might work fine. ;]
I've had my Jest for a month and yesterday this issue started where when I turned it on it showed no charge and when I plugged it in it showed full charge but turned off after unplugging. I called Verizon and they have no clue. I tried using a kindle charger, its the same as the pantech charger and it took the charge.
I had this same problem. I went and found another charger I had in my chords box (may have been the charger that came with the phone) and everything worked. I wonder if they didn't "fix" the problem by putting later shipments of the phone with a more powerful charger.
