Locked up phone PLEASE HELP :(

Hello all.
I have an HTC Hero and my carrier is Telus.
I have a big problem. I have a lock screen on my phone where you have to do a "connect the dots" pattern on the screen and then you can access your phone.
Well, my son was playing with my phone and he tried to get in and after 5 attempts, the phone locks up.
Once the phone is locked, it asks you for your google account log in information to get into your phone.
My problem is that I cannot remember my gmail address.
My phone is still under warranty but I would be surprised if they don't charge me for unlocking it.
I tried to connect it to my computer and access the file system that way but in order to access it you have to "mount" the phone and you have to tell the phone to do that and I can't.
Is there anyone out there that can offer any advice?
Please help me I am desprate.

1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the HOME, END CALL/POWER, and BACK buttons. The reset process will start after a few seconds.

2. Wait for the phone to finish the reset process and then press MENU

You will lose everything though as this is like a hard reset, so your call. Good luck.
