Does anyone have the recovery image for this? Or a recovery image that will work to where I can backup my phone? How were you able to root it? I have been looking everywhere for a working way to root mine.
Well Superoneclick worked to root the phone, but locked up on the superuser.apk V1.5.4, So I unrooted the phone and am trying it again as I type this, yes, I removed Superuser.
I finally got to a corporate Cricket Store and did a general road-test of the Zio and Ascend side by side. If I could frankenstein the 2 phones that would be great!
My first impressions were that the Ascend was the superior phone although the 2.1 Android OS played a big part in this. I felt the phone was more substantial in my hand, moreso than the Zio. The 2.5mm jack for headphones was a really stupid error imo - I keep regular 3.5mm headphones with me from working out and it would be great to use this on the ascend for listening to Pandora, YouTube etc. You can get adaptors of course but who wants to do that? It means I'd have to carry a different set of headphones around with me but I remember doing that back in the days of my Sony Ericsson K750i.
I played a YouTube clip side by side on each phone and the quality was poor on the Zio - the Ascend looking way better. However, viewing in HD mode the clip was easily comparable on the Zio and the colors were perhaps a little better. Kind of strange really.
I'm aware the Zio has a higher quality screen and when taking a photo the screen looked very crisp - much better than the ascend. Has anyone done a comparison of the camera pictures by uploading to a PC? The camera is something I'd use quite a lot just for regular snapping and sharing overseas. I found the response on the Zio to be fine and not as unresponsive as first suggested.
I didn't get chance to make a call and check out the call quality though. I've heard reviews saying it's poor on the ascend and that concerns me a little. I do a lot of calling overseas but I'm currently using a Samsung R211 so it must be an improvement!

Also, the $50 mail in re-bate is something that I don't like - I want to save now not in 4 weeks! I'm waiting until Black Friday since i have a feeling there might be a better deal on the web.

There is no issue with the call quality on the Ascend, that is just hype from competitors! I have had mine for about a week now, I have had NO problems!

Thanks, that's good to know! As I mentioned I'm upgrading from a Samsung R211 so this is going to be a big step up and in call quality I would imagine.
I'm still going to try out the Zio at the Sprint store to get a handle on the Android 2.1 but the Ascend is front-runner for me now.
gawd21: What are the quality of the pictures like on the Ascend? As I talked about, prior to taking the picture it looked very crisp on the Zio but I suspect that is due to the higher-res screen. Do the pictures look good once downloaded onto a PC, uploaded to FB etc?

Well, I have only taken three, and they were in low light, keep in mind that it is only a 3.2mp, but they were okay. I haven't looked at them on the computer, yet. If you PM me your #, I will text you a pic and you can decide from there.
I have an Ascend and there are so many great apps I can't access (says can't be found) and I'm not sure why, does anyone know? (apps like google goggles and angry birds and ustream broadcaster etc.) and will rooting the phone fix this?

I have not had this problem. I have found every app thus far.
I can't even find google goggles in the regular market app, it's not there. The AppBrain app it's there but when I click on it then it says not found. Could this be how the guy at the cricket place set it up? It sucks how so many great apps are not accessible as if blocked or something.
I wondered if being on Cricket would limit the number of available apps. I have been with Cricket for a while and have never had a smart phone but I wanna get this Ascend probably. (unless someone knows if the Zio will get 2.x anytime soon)
