Question about data speeds with WFM

I have read that WFM uses tmobile's network for data and voice. I have also read that they use the HSDPA 1700 frequency for 3g data. Now, i'm kinda confused because on walmart's website they show the optimus one p500 as a phone for this plan. here are the specs:
    http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_one_p500-3516.php

here is a link from walmart's website:
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Walmart-Fa...Phone/17420263

if this is accurate then that means this phone could only be used to use the much slower edge data speed because it does not have the 1700 frequency.

the optimus t p509 however does have the 1700 frequency for 3g data. here are it's specs:
    http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_t-3544.php

walmart wouldn't be purposefully selling phones that it knew couldn't use the much faster 3g data speeds with on tmobile's network, would they? maybe i'm just confused about all this. any input is appreciated, thanks.

p.s. i'm asking all these questions because my contract with sprint is up in a month and i'm thinking of switching my 2 lines to wfm and trying to decide what 2 phones to buy.

I cannot answer the question on that particular phone except with this. WFM is basically 100% same as Tmobile. Your Customer Service is different but that is about it (but I have caught them answering as Tmobile before so it may be exactly the same CS just with a different script). I have 4 lines with WFM. One line is a Dell Streak Tablet. It gets the "4G" speeds that tmobile uses. Same with my MyTouch 4G. So basically if the phone would get 3g speeds with Tmobile it will with WFM. Its a MVNO but its a weird way they did it. The Coverage Map even goes right to the Tmobile Website. The only real way I can sum up WFM is that it is rebranded Tmobile.

so am i correct in assuming that if the phone does not have HSDPA 1700 it cannot receive 3g data speeds on tmobile's network?

No, Tmobile uses 1700/2100 (simultaneously). Its also known as AWS.

The phone on walmart site and the one from gsmarena are two different phones. Optimus line has many variants. Sprint, Att, tmobile, .... Walmart is selling the tmobile variant which you can find in walmart store anf has the right 3g bands. You can aldo buy a factory refurb at tmobile web for $119 and use it on walmart plan.

Does anyone think wfm will eventually do away with the web packs and just make it unlimited talk, text, and web for $45 + $25 per additional line? The way things are going with ever increasing competition it seems likely imo.

I have been with sprint for 11 years and my contract is up next month and i'm trying to decide between wfm, straight talk, and simple mobile. I know wfm will have unlimited data for the first 3 months, just wondering if they will just offer it for free indefinitely after that (if they want to remain competetive). Any thoughts?

Well from Oct 1 to December 31 all data on Walmart Family Mobile is free and will not use webpacks. We got a text from them the other day. Maybe they are trying things out to see how it goes.

Yes, it will work. You just need the SIM card activation kits (around $25, include first month of service).

I recently went to Alaska. Tmobile offers no service up their so I roamed on AT&T the entire time. With WFM while roaming on AT&T you only get voice and txt service. I had no data service at all the entire time I was roaming on AT&T.

I recently dropped AT&T and now have WFM. I got the unlock code for an HTC Aria we had lying around the house and it works, but I MISS USING MY iPHONE 4. I've been reading and re-reading each post that relates to the iPhone 4, but being that I have tendency to get ahead of myself or completely botch things, I thought I'd get clarification.

Do I need to have my iPhone 4 unlocked or jailbroken to use WFM or can I just trim my SIM card and change all of the settings?

I apologize if this is a silly question, but I am not only new to the forum, I am new to learning that you can edit and adjust things on a phone.

It has to be unlocked. Unlocked will give you talk, text, and data (easy apn change). To get mms, you need to be jailbroken so you can edit the mms settings.

So there's no way to getting data working while roaming?
