guess they are not extending the free web to customers on the original talk + text plan. i plan on going to simple mobile if they don't extend it.

Emergency text alerts now being sent out to those with compatible phones. Pretty neat feature.

Does the WFM plan include (so-called "4G")? I have WFM, but my phone is only 3G (HSPA 10). I could switch to SimpleMobile and save a few cents but would give up the future option of switching to a 4G phone since the $80 for 2 plan is 3G only. Do I understand this right?
I currently have a thunderbolt on Verizon and I'm paying like $160 a month for 700 minutes, grandfathered into unlimited data on 1 phone, and unlimited text on both lines. I'm thinking about switching to my own plan though in November or so since the other person on my plan doesn't usually pay their half on time. I figure since I probably wouldn't be able to keep my grandfathered unlimited data if I get out of this family plan, I should probably just change carriers.. = /
I wanted to use my a friends old ATT iphone 3gs on this WFM plan since I could get it for $35/month for unlimited data, min, texts since I'm an associate. I heard about the mms fix, but will data for sure work on WFM since it's an ATT phone? and will I be able to port over my Verizon number to WFM even if I use this iphone?
So what with web speeds for those who are on new plan, how they are throttled after 250mb?
And others do you still continue to get free web?
This is a great thread!. I created an account to ask a few questions about this plan.
A friend of mine is using this program already (WFM) with a very old phone. I saw the phone and it still using Android 1.5, are you freaking kidding me?...lol
Anyway, I want to purchase a new smartphone to upgrade the one she has now . Based on the 20 pages from this thread, I've found out that:
- You can buy ANY T-Mobile smartphone, and it doesnt have to be unlocked, just put sim card and viola. Do you need to purchase a new activation kit? Or in her case is different since she is already using program, just insert her current sim card into new smartphone and that's it, right?
(I am thinking about Samsung Galaxy S3 (T-Mobile version of course)
- If I buy an unlocked IPHONE (3GS, 4, 4S), it will ONLY use EDGE speed since it doesnt supoort T-Mobile frequency towers., correct?
- If I decide for the Samsung Galaxy S3, it would not have access to T-Mobile HSPA+?
I would really appreciate all feedbacks possible.
Thanks!
Your friend can keep her Sim and put it in a new phone but why not upgrade to ginger bread?
A new account will require a new $25 Sim kit.
Currently the IPhone will only access TMO 2g network but they are refarming their GSM 1900 for data use and will be building LTE using their 1700 bandwidth. After this transfer is completed ATT and TMO phones will work interchangeably except for LTE.
There are a number of phones that support both Att's 850/1900 & TMO's 1700 like the motorola defy or the Nokia Lumia 710 / 900
I don't think her phone let's her upgrade to Gingebread. I'm going to ask her to do it if an upgrade is available. I just glanced at it for a few minutes. It's one of those phones Walmart offers. It's just too slow.
She wants me to buy the White Samsung Galaxy S2 or S3 for T-Mobile. Somehow, T-mobile is the network that sells the S3 more expensive of the other two, but of couse I can't purchase the Sprint version of it, only AT&T.
By the way, what about the settings? I've read that for some phones, you have to tweak the setting to receive text and for internet to work.
As far as I know the only change will be to the APN and possibly the setting for MMS.
If you want a smart phone I recommend the Nokia 710. You can buy it in store for $200 when you buy a $50 prepaid airtime card. If you want an Android I suggest the Google Nexus only 349 with no contract on the Google play store plus it is true penta band phone with all North American GSM frequencies.
I already checked the Galaxy Nexus and I loved the price. I couldnt believe it was such a low price, and I suggested this to my friend but she loves the white Samsung Galaxy S2 for T-Mobile. But we're talking +$200 difference here.
Also, Galaxy Nexus comes straight from Google and soon it will have Jelly Bean 4.1 update. So, if I get her this phone, she will go from 1.5 update to 4.1.
My girlfriend has the Verizon Galaxy Nexus and it is a gorgeous phone.
