After moving and leaving my last indirect job, I found a new store opening. Its owned by cellular sales. Ive done some research online and it looks like they are a huge company. Have great high commissions. But its 100% commission and you are an independent contractor. And I read online that you have to get yourself incorporated to work with the company.
Anyone have any experience on this? How is 100% commission based pay? Im good at sales and know the material, but Ive worked at smaller indirect agencies for the past 3 years. This is a big leap. And im a full time college student. They said hours are super flexible. But they also mentioned chargebacks and stuff.
Im working on my application on their website now, but figured I would stop by here and see if anyone has any input.

Is this for real? Are you yanking our chain here about some company requiring incorporation from everyone working as in-store retail sales help? Next thing you know WalMart will start asking its employees to incorporate if this kind of crap takes hold.
I would think you would do better working for someone that does not ask you to pay both 15.3% of your income to SS and Medicare, make monthly payroll deductions, pay unemployment insurance on the corporate employee (you, lol), file quarterly returns...and pay incorporation costs and all the extra state and IRS paperwork and for corporations. Plus you may have to provide them proof of workers comp, and taken to the extreme a City business license. I would not be surprised if you had to pay to lease a desk in the office and pay for part of the utilities.
Surely this job is not going to net you the extra thousands you will pay each year in payroll, tax, accounting and incorporation expenses and who know what else. There is a reason when a company in this economy posts a bazillion job openings. Ponder on that.
I'm aware of the way CSOKI pays it's employees, and despite any current "employees"/fanboi's of the company that will undoubtedly flame what I'm about to say, I'll say it anyways: the way CSOKI "employs" it's salespeople is patently illegal, immoral, and unethical. Both federal and state governments set well-defined guidelines of what a 1099 employee is, and when it is or isn't OK to foster that sort of work relationship. 1099 employee's are supposed to be independent contractors, with a finite work project and/or campaign, they are incorporated businesses unto themselves, and they work under their own guidelines, own schedules, etc, and are paid accordingly. CSOKI employees are not given the same lateral work freedom of a true contractor. It is the company's way of getting all of the benefits of full time employees without having to foot the payroll expense of an "actually employed" individual. If I were a job applicant at an interview with these people and they told me that, I'd laugh my *** back out the door and keep job hunting.
Low price, Excellent Service, High Quality. Pick any two, but you never get all three.

This. I have always been amazed by how they get away with this. Had discussions about it many times with other dealers in my area.

no other indirect pays like we do on a per activation basis. since we are incorporated most of us pay far far far less in taxes than any normal employees.
we post a ton of job openings not because of high turnover but because of how large and how we are constantly expanding.
i'm not a fan boi, just wanting you to get your facts straight about a few things.
as for the legal status of us as contractors, the company has been checked time and time again by the IRS.
personally i'll take the much much higher pay and the 25 hour work weeks any day than the corporate cell phone corporation who use to pay 20k plus benefits and comms that i use to work for years ago (and they were one of the industry highest).
If the money was right, I wouldn't be opposed to being paid as an independent contractor.
That is the point, for most people the money is not right. Unless I miss my guess, for every one success story like cellularsales, there are probably 3 (if not 5) that have not done well for one reason or another. Everybody thinks they can win going into the casino, and some do, but that does not make it a smart place for you to make your living. The odds just don't make sense. If by you are that good at business/sales, you may be better off starting your own business or working for a place that values its employees.
Biggest obstacles, as an individual you have far more at risk in the situation than your "general contractor" and you are always fighting the battle against your costs. Incorporation (and all that goes with it) is not a casual matter to be handled by rookies or "fresh out of college or high school" types. Trust me, when the letters start rolling in from the IRS or state tax authority it is not like filing a 1040EZ.

lots of bad info here. hiring an accountant is simple, can be done cheaply and will take care of all the headache for you. So your point is completely irrelevant.
there are more people like me than the people who you are talking about not making money, as i said our company average is 48k a year. i love when someone who has no experience with our company starts baseless bashing.
i also find it funny how you use the words "value their employees". good luck with that, no company really cares about their employees, if they cared about them as they cared about their own pockets things would be quite different than how they are.
BTW, you need to reverse your statement, there are thousands of people in our company that the money is right for. even some of the worst reps i've seen take home more money (even after their small amount they pay their accountant and taxes) than what they would get paid at the other indirects.

I am currently new to Cellular Sales in the central Florida market. I am having trouble setting up my @cellularsales.com email on my PC. Can someone please give me some pointers or lay out the steps for me? Like I said, I am new, and I don't want my of my coworkers to think I am not computer savy because I can not get this connected Also, I don't recall setting up a password. Do I do that when I set up my email or is this a set password according to my personal information?

PLEASE HELP
I never like asking other subcontractors for help on a jobsite either. Perhaps you could ask your general contractor, they should be willing to help. I think you are correct in staying away from your competitors, err, the other subcontractors on the job.
I am considering going to work for this company. The feedback on the web is mixed concerning this organization. Is there anyone who has actual experience and would like to share. Feel free to PM.

I make more than that a year as a rep for a large cell carrier. Guess which one? I have benefits, raises, etc. Oh yeah, loads of paid vacation.
/me shrugs
My opinions are mine and do not reflect on my employer.
