Ah that'd be right. Softbank with all the restrictions.
Still, i like the fact that its a Japanese keitai which should be completely usable outside of Japan. Though somewhat sobering to think about the price. Especially since Android phones seem to be like buying a PC... Already outdated the minute you walk out of the store.

Isn't it already fully usable with a hypersim outside Japan (incl 3G calls/data)?
Yes, with a hypersim you wouldnt really need that unlocking procedure done. But you still need to use a third party app to edit the APNs to work. That unlocking procedure only enables the phone to work without a sim i think.
I have a feeling that any old hypersim will work on this phone. Gonna try it out with a few that i bought a couple of years ago (including a ultra-rare IonNuke-programmed MM unlock hypersim ), when i visit the US in April
Any old hypersim should work. I'm using my 940sh's hypersim with my sh03c solely for data and it works. Just bought a cheapo docomo hypersim and that works too.
Assuming, of course, the lock is similar to my phone's.
Well i got my phone. 1 and a half hours of bargaining and paperwork later (ok, so 5 minutes of bargaining, and 1hr 25m of paperwork), i got it plus 5000yen worth of JCB vouchers (i.e. cash), and a SB Otosan talking strap.
Still going through the settings but i am very happy so far. Fricken 85,900yen though that was rough (even the lady in the shop was a bit surprised when i handed over the cash instead of taking monthly payments).
Was too rushed to sort out the unlocking, but will do that on the weekend if i can.
Will try to get pics and that up soon. But now i gotta catch up on missed work, and tonight i gotta go drinking (leaving the phone at HOME incase you are wondering Kevin!).

Well you can take a bunch of steps out of that unlock procedure... heres how it went for me:
Bring phone plus id to softbank and tell them i want to unlock it.,
He takes my phone, removes battery and scans it in. Verified it was paid outright and generates the qr code.
Restart phone and launch qr code app. Read code and go to specified web address.
A message then comes up saying the phone is unlocked.
Now to try one of my aussie sim cards?
Btw, i realised why softbank has these restrictions in the first place. Probably explains the MM lock too. .With SB most ppl take payment option on the phones, where docomo phones are bought outright. So there is no need to have the paid outright check, and the restriction isnt necessary...
Anyone confirm if the signal will be stable when using a hypersim? Just asking because I am seriously considering this phone but since I live in the woods pretty much, reception is horrible.
Ive sent emails to benny on HWZ and canadaJphones.com about this and other questions but no response, so buying may be a problem as well too :/
Signal is great for Japan! not sure if its the addition of the 1500mhz band (not present in the 003SH, or any other smartphones on Softbank), or the antenna design but it sure blows away the iphone 3G i was using before.
On the subway i have reception from before i arrive at the station (10-20 seconds), till shortly after i leave the station. The iPhail would be lucky to get reception before the train left the platform, and then instantly drop out as soon as it does.
