I have noticed a decline in 3G service in Vermont as well. Now, I'm switching to EDGE at times or losing my data connection completely..just like when I'm in Los Angeles. It's good that they added one more channel, but that's useless for me since I'm too far away to use it. I'm gone for several months and get this...
#1 isn't an issue or an excuse if they did something with #2.
#2 is a reoccurring theme with AT&T..
Apparently, this is a bigger problem than I thought...
Right, however things were fine when 3G first rolled out in Vermont or at least in the areas I frequent.
I never had a problem with switching between 3G and EDGE or losing my data completely, that's the difference between then and now.
Things are better than what the former carrier had originally offered to its customers. Back then 3G was just something they mentioned on a pdf file among other things.

To Verizon's credit, I haven't noticed that in the local carriers they've acquired in NorCal. Like up here in Northwestern California, Verizon acquired CalNorth Wireless (the B Band Carrier in Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity and Siskiyou Counties) about 3 years ago, in in less than a year they took a network that had no data at all to getting 1X Data on the entire network, EVDO on it less than a year after that and 100% EVDO a short time later. I am sure VZ has some crappy acquisitions around, people on Alltel seem to be pretty unhappy in some areas (I'm not sure how the Alltel areas they got in CA are doing), but I personally haven't seen any (they've acquired CalNorth, Mountain Cellular and Surewest PCS in the past few years).
Well, Rural America does appear to be expanding on the 3G front - just not your area and in general, the West coast states. In fact, they went rural enough to cover unincorporated parts of St. Louis County, MN and miss the towns of Tower, Peyla and Cook, MN. Looks like there must be some influential people living at Vermillion Lake.
AT&T... your world, throttled.
I would bet money had a lot to do with it. Oh well, maybe they'll do something in Rural CA and the Rural West (the Midwest does NOT count in that)next year, wait, how long have I been saying that now? lol It's funny, before last summer T-Mobile was nowhere to be found up here, now they have almost as much voice coverage and data coverage as AT&T, plus 4G (well, T-Mobile's definition of that anyway) in Ukiah, parts of Lake County, Eureka and Susanville, maybe AT&T has surrendered the fight?
I never in my day thought I'd see T-Mobile overtake AT&T in our area, let alone in any rural area, I guess fact is stranger than fiction lol
I've generally had great speeds throughout Plano (and all of Collin County) that almost match the speeds in the Dallas core on average. However, there is no denying that the speeds do tend to hold up more in Dallas proper during peak hours.
BTW, my highest speed of 6.05Mbps in my signature was done in West Allen/North Plano this past summer. :-D

att has 4g? crap, where still waiting for 3g.
I live in MN. I saw that new 3G coverage on the map as well in northern MN, where there is nothing but forest, moose, and bears. My theory is that the 3G sites that popped up there recently must be new towers to fill in the gaps. My guess is they simply installed 3G equipment into a new tower installation. Is there any way to get an old coverage map to verify that those are indeed new tower locations?
I'd say lakes in general should be a priority for 3G as those are getaway spots for many people in the US.
well all the local cell towers here are fiber fed... i know cause i have a buddy that works for at$t construction and thats what he does.... pulls fiber to the cell cites.
But i have yet to break past 3Mbps on my phone nor my company issued laptop with at$t 3g on it... So either there are a LOT of people suking up all the data from every tower i access or its not hot yet....
They can bicker, but I've had more returns with AT&T than any other carrier. Verizon may not be as fast, but it sure is more reliable. What good is a Ferrari if it randomly shuts off and lets the Jetta get there faster?
