Samsung Captive - Temporary Unresponsive Screen

    Edit: Meant to say Captivate

Anyone have this issue where your screen would be unresponsive to touch for a while? Sometimes, it lasts only a few seconds, sometimes more than a minute. The buttons sometimes work and I can change volume with the rocker even though touch is still unresponsive.

I've read about lag issues with other Captivates, but I don't know if that's what I'm experiencing. With the long time it takes, I doubt mine is just lag.

I found out what it was.

"Recently a popular Android phone model was found to have a capacitive touch-screen manufacturing defect where the grounding was not correctly wired up resulting in the need to grip the phone before touching the screen; simple direct touching of the phone laying on a table did nothing to affect the Touch UI."

I just got a case for it today. When it freezes up, I take off the silicon case and it works instantly. Anyone else have this problem? Is it just my unit or are they all like this?

    Please respond. Thanks.

I have a Seidio Active X 'rubber' case which would prevent me from "grounding" the phone. I have not noticed this. Perhaps there is an installed application gone awry? Go into your setting and see what services are running. Otherwise it could have a loose connection. Does it look like the phone is switching between 2G and 3G - how are the bars? Are you holding the bottom of the phone where the antenna is?

Looks like the touch screen problem you were quoting has to do with HTC Evo 4G. Make sure your silicon case isn't riding up on the bottom buttons or the sides, causing the phone to get confused.

Try to replicate out of case, while not touching the phone ie. have it on a table like it says in the info you found, Kwonger.

The quote was probably from the EVO, but it was from a person experiencing the same problem on their Captivate.

It's not any of the new software I installed. I did a full reset and still had the problems. I'm also positive it's not any other part contacting the screen. This problem only occurs when the case is on.

I think it has something to do with their backplate design. If you take off the metal backplate, you'll notice two white contact points that are meant to touch two gold contacts on the phone. I'm assuming the metal backplate wasn't just for aesthetics.

Going to call it in for a replacement.

Interesting to note that as soon as it's fully in its case, MultiTouch Visualizer 2 shows that it doesn't detect all my touches properly. I can do 5 points of contact when the case is off but when I put it on, it gets confused after 2.
